my observations:

1. The Spurs are now a dynasty

2. Duncan came up big and shut everyone up who said he isnt playing well. he hit his FT, and more importantly, he was the reason that ginnobli and bowen got those open looks for threes

3. Rasheed had a good series but made some bone headed plays. i.e that ill advised three point attempt COMING OUT OF A TIMEOUT

4. Spurs are the best team in the NBA

5. Mr. Billups DID NOT come up clutch like everyone says he is. mr horry, however, did

hats off to the Spurs, way to squeak out a title.

this series was all about one shot from Horry - I honestly believe that one stinkin' basket decided the series.

Congrats to the Spurs fans & Timmy. :gift:

i'm still really proud of the Pistons and LB - making it back to the finals to defend the title showed massive balls on their parts.

03 champs vs. 04 champs = great series. to SA, especially Horry!

edit: oh yeah this thread pwns the new record for most troll posts ever... :cookie: to everyone chirping Detroit fans. grab a life guys

Thank god the Spurs won, I haven't been more into a non-local team in the NBA finals for a long time, usually I just root for a team to beat the Lakers or something but I truly wanted the Spurs to win. I know a lot of people hate him, but Manu Ginobili is just so much fun to watch, he gives each game such an effort and his importance showed on the court throughout the playoffs. Living in Philly I?m use to seeing his slashing style of play from Iverson, but even AI doesn?t have the court awareness and shot selection Manu does on a limited basis. I wanted Manu to get MVP and think he deserved it, but to make a comparison to the most dynamic duo in Basketball ? Ginobili will always be the Pippen to Duncan?s Jordan, and we all know Jordan gets the highest recognition in the end, besides all those guys are team players under Pop which is how it should be. I gotta hand it to the Pistons though; they literally had to fight to get back into the series twice, being down 2-0 going home first and 3-2 on the road second. They really do have a solid, well-coached team that I never felt safe around until 7 seconds left in game 7. To my surprise I watched nearly every game of the finals this year and became intrigued with some of the stories like Dwayne Wades? rise to the top, Steve Nash?s claim to being the MVP, T-Mac?s attempt to win big in the playoffs, and of course the story of these two teams in the finals. I?m sad that it?s finally over but glad the Spurs won and the series delivered on its promise of being close in the end.

all respect to the Spurs, but i'm not ready to call them a dynasty yet.

imo, the true dynasties were the Celtics, Lakers, and Bulls.

Spurs have 3 and i think they're on the threshold, but not quite there yet. i think NBA dynasties are strictly measured by # of championships.

I think thats a good analogy comparing his role with pippen. Both were floor leaders who you could trust to make things happen if the team had problems getting going. Both had winning mentalities and are fierce competitors and make few mistakes, and both seem to like being second fiddle and not have to carry the team day in and day out.

The only thing I'd take issue with is that when you suggest many people hate him...that might be the contingent of pistons fans here, but not much else. :p Some people might resent him suddenly being rated so high all of a sudden...maybe that's reasonable because he can't carry games all the time, but he's as much of a winner as most anyone in the league, and he's a clean player who plays with heart. The pistons did a great job against his drives the last couple games, but he came back with a vengeance when it counted most.

I admit the Spurs are the best team in the NBA overall, but I don't see how the qualify as a dynasty. Sure they won it in '99, '03 and '05. In my book there at least has to be a two-peat, but more so a three-peat to become a dynasty.

2. Duncan came up big and shut everyone up who said he isnt playing well. he hit his FT, and more importantly, he was the reason that ginnobli and bowen got those open looks for threes
Duncan did have a good night. However, I would say it was Detroit's lack of defense that allowed Ginnobli and Bowen "those open looks."

3. Rasheed had a good series but made some bone headed plays. i.e that ill advised three point attempt COMING OUT OF A TIMEOUT
Sure, but he was also the hero in some of the other games...like game 6 for instance.

4. Spurs are the best team in the NBA
Yes.

Okay Mr. Horry clutched in Game 5--spectacular and outstanding performance indeed. However, Mr. Horry is not a very consistent player. He's fortunate to leech onto teams that will win an NBA championship. Some folks in this thread have said that Mr. Horry is a star--hah! He's a good basketball player not a superstar, not even a star.

I'm sorry, but did anybody else see Robert Horry smack a ref's ass when the ref made a call? I think it was about halfway through the second quarter (might've been the first), right before they went to commercial.

I swear I saw it, but I was watching by myself and I was just curious as to whether or not anyone else can corraborate.

As a Detroiter I'm somewhat bummed out, but not real surprised. They had their chance but blew it when they lost the nine and six point leads in the third quarter. I was real concerned when they couldn't put the Spurs away at that time and let them continue to hang in there. I'd felt they'd basically been winning the game but that it wasn't showing on the scoreboard. Their defense did a great job, but the offensive production was just lacking. Could used a couple lucky shots.

I don't know if anyone anywhere has mentioned this, but one of the overlooked reasons the Pistons lost the series was right on their bench--Darko Milicic. I don't have anything against Darko and I feel badly for him that he hasn't had a chance to play and develop, and I'm not blaming the loss on him personally. But it seems to me that the number two pick in the previous season's draft should be playing a large role if not starting in such important games. I don't fault Darko for any of this, but you do have to wonder what the Pistons would have been like had they drafted someone who was ready to come in and produce immediately. Perhaps they would have whizzed by the Heat and mopped up the Spurs in five games?

Larry apparently doesn't like playin the youngsters, and Darko is definitely a youngster.

Seriously speaking though, if the coach next year isn't Larry Brown (I'm not stupid enough to be one of the people trying to predict what LB will do next) then Darko will most likely see a lot more minutes than he's seen up to this point.

It's interesting though; if the kid flops, then Larry will be seen as a genius for keeping him off the floor. If he turns into a star, people will second-guess Larry into the grave.

I think the Pistons should have let Darko start a couple games throughout the season and get significant minutes in others just as an investment in the future. So they lose a couple games here and there, oh well. On the otherhand, I can understand the urgency of trying to win the championship and then going all out to try to do that while the window of opportunity is still available.

Darko did start the last two games of the regular season. He did pretty well against Atlanta, putting up 16 and 7.

People will say the pistons lost to a better team, but the truth is they came into the series with half-@ss energy and as a result they got blown out twice. That was a helluva hole they put themselves in. I was rooting for the spurs, but in hindsight, seeing how awesome they played in games 3-7, there was no exuse for not showing up in 1 and 2.

They did however just come off a 7 game series against the Heat, so I'll accept the layover factor as an excuse. Not only that but the Spurs finished off Phoenix early on and had the privilege of resting for a week, you saw how beneficial that proved that be in games 1 and 2.

As much as I love the Pistons, I still don't think they beat Miami if DWade is 100%.

Deep down inside, you know it's probably true too.

I might give them the benefit of the doubt for one game, but not two. They had two days of rest after the miami series, and 2 days rest after game one with SA. However even tougher, they had 1 day rest going to detroit for game 3, including the flight in between, so in theory they should have been even more tired in game 3 when in fact they were a completely different ball club, energy and aggressiveness-wise. They also aren't strangers to playing this late in the season.

Not unless Shaq is also 100%. DWade can't do everything for the Heat.
