Making fun of or creating tasteless humor targeting any other person is in breach of this notice and therefor makes you subject to lawsuits and boycotts by any and all people.

Thank you for your cooperation.

Minority Report: Would you be this upset if Maxim drew the same cartoon with Bush being beaten up or Tony Blair? Why is it that your nationality or your Ghandi is the only one that can't have a tasteless cartoon created about? Give me a break! If all of these bleeding heart, lawsuit loving people would be as enraged accross the board about things like this then I could see why they are upset. But I know for a fact that no one would be upset and threatening a lawsuit if this were a white guy fat and balding or not.

Ok, a lawsuit is pushing it :) But seriously, why are you angry that this upsets someone? Don't jokes upset people all the time? Why should it make you angry at them? This was a joke - a poor joke, an offensive joke, a stupid joke. This is not classical satire or humour of the kind that can be appreciated even by those targeted. There are plenty of Gandhi jokes (along the lines of catholic priest jokes here) even in India. Some are outright disgusting, but nothing this mean and senseless. This is not funny and that's why it irritates me - that someone would make a target of a person like the Mahatma and not even drag a smile out of me - and frankly, I am only concerned whether I am amused or not - I care a sh!t if you are rolling on the floor with laughter - this "joke" does not make me smile and I have become a slightly inferior human for having encountered this piece of crap in the guise of a "joke" :p

Thats why we indians do it .. sorry you missed that one .

Dunkin donuts as well .. here in NYC every single one is franchised by a desi.

However most indians are white collared professionals who go to top US universities, work in top companies, doctors, IT professionals by the millions, engineers, scientists, reserchers, etc

I would ask America to embrace your Hindu/Indian friends .. we are with you in every step.

eh, I am indian and I couldn't care less about that joke.

Although we do not form a big customer base for that publication, we are the richest and most educated ethnic minortiy here in US, and with our money/position and a united voice, we will speak and show our influence ..slow and steady. oh man give me a break. More money doesn't mean people can't make fun of you.

You ask how would i feel if (enter person's name here) were depicted in that cartoon. My answer is I would feel the same as I fealt with Ghandi. I didn't think it was funny, I am not sickened, I also don't think that anyone in the USA should be upset that a publication is practicing its right to free speech (which is also what gives you the right to voice your "outrage" that you wouldn't be able to in many other countries). I wouldn't demand that they retract or anything. It was a stupid attempt at trying to be funny. I don't find humor in violent cartoons or fart jokes. I also don't get enraged when people try to be funny in stupid ways. Get over it or move back to your country that probably doesn't permit the rights that are enjoyed here in the US.

I have no problem with your outrage. I do have a problem thinking that you should be able to "bring them down" as you stated prior to your edit. Their free speech and my ability to not buy their magazine is as important to me as you being able to voice your outrage but it ends there. You and your lobby don't have the right to decide for me what I want to look at. Boycott them if you want but give up the notion that you can decide for me. It's unfortunate that you and your lobby ruined my fries.

Grow up and find a better avenue for your energy. How about educating people as to why violence isn't funny and then let the people you educate decide if they want to buy a magazine with tasteless articles...

Sorry I did not mean in that way.

My point was that to show we can make a good impact and get Maxim to apologise.. and use the financial background to help us in the process.

It seems you have been mistaken. When did I tell you not to read a certain article or certain magazine? You are making a ten into a hundred. Also what do you think when I meant "bring it down" ? You must be a 14 year old kid at least in brain power to think we can bring down a $1.1 billion publication house cause they printed a anti Gandhi article.

IF you are, plz refrain from further debate.

My point is simple :

1) We find the article tasteless
2) We object to it
3) We will use our lobby/influence to get Maxim apologise or patch up the damage
4) Maxim is looking for a Asian base and Indian market for expansion ..hence we let them know such disgusting crap will get them banned from teh sub continent

Now you tell me where do you fit in here ? No where

Wah! I'm sick of East Indians assuming I'm a drunk because I'm Irish...

Wah! I'm an over-sensitive suckhole who doesn't understand that although india has 1 billion people, most are so poor/uneducated that they make no matter where the rest of the world is concerned.

Wah! I'm a whiner who bitches because my race got disrespected in a satricial manner

Wah! I'm going to whine and bitch and moan about "my people's" oppression by the White Man, even though i was born in north America, get rich off North American jobs, date North American women, eat North American food, watch North American TV, drink North American beer, use North American gas, criticize the leaders of North America

If you want to get in touch with your "roots", go back to India/Africa/Europe whatever.... but don't because North America is the richest continent in the world.... why do you think your forbears came her ein the first place???

My point was simple too. Before you edited, you stated that you were going to "bring them down".....

I am an American that has fought for our country so that companies and individuals can enjoy their rights to free speech... stupid or not. I support your rights to free speech. You have no right to "bring them down". That's where I fit in.

I am also a Human Being who is tired of people that are only enraged when their race or icons are used in jokes. Like I stated and you answered with a question... Let me rephrase it for you too...

Would you be this upset if Maxim had depicted George Washington getting the crap beat out of him by a figure that resembled someone from your country of origin? Ghandi is the father of your original nation but the USA is the nation that you currently live in and make $70K+. How would you feel?

Where do YOU fit in?

I am not sure .. but why don't you ask the same question to Shri Anand Lal Shimpi ji.. ? Maybe he will answer some for you.

Now here is a fact :

Well from 2004 onwards US and India are going to have a dual citizenship setup. Hence I will be having 2 passports, American and Indian. That solves your question .. when I want to get in touch with my roots, I will fly to India. And when the weather gets too hot, fly back to North America.

What a wondeful solution ..

Oh Christ... someone made fun of East indians... run and tell Anand!!!

Much like the article in question... my post was not meant to be taken in anything resembling a serious context... if you've got your head so far up your ass that all you see is the world through shyte-stained eyes, that's your problem... I for one am sick of having to walk around on eggshells for fear of upsetting someone who thinks they're a "minority". If 1/6th of the worlds population is Indian, exactly HOW are you a minority???

Your respectful language is evidence of your ignorance. The refrence to anand was not meant to be taken in anything resembling a serious context. Sorry your head is also far up your #$$

However I pity your mathematics knowledge as well.

In US, we are 2-3 million in number. So figure it yourself how is that a majority. When we talk of minority, it is always minoroty in USA or in terms of US . Maxim being a US based magazine, its US we are dealing with.

haha. I never actually thought of that, good point.

anywho, MinorityReport:- take it easy man your lobby would be better off doing other things. Having 'Maxim' retract the article or applogize won't do any good to anybody.

HAHAHAH There is humor!!! You have the right to get it off the shelves?! You need a reality check. You have the right to voice your opinion as I have said and I know enough to put $$ on the fact that you wouldn't demanda boycott or want to "bring them down" with my above scenario. That is what makes your point 100% invalid.

Your being this upset about this cartoon is as much of a joke as blind people angered by the movie Mr Magoo. Until an individual can prove that he is upset by the act and not the people involved, he is nothing more than an opinionated bafoon that thinks he has the right to prevent others from seeing what they want to.

Get over the fact that your view isn't shared by the other 5/6ths of the world population. Be angry all you want but direct it correctly.

I just want to say being from East Indian descent myself, that MinorityReport's views don't nearly represent all of us. I don't mind the Gandhi thing really, and though it's obviously in poor taste, that's Maxim's style. Won't affect my readership one bit.

However On a side note, it looks to me like like blakeatwork whining an awful lot about whiners. Not to mention using stupid straw man arguments to discredit people. Nobody here's bitching about "the white man" getting them down or any such bs, so you know where you can stick your preconcieved notions.

Here we go again ...

Some people of my community find this article distasteful and would like an apology from the publishing house. And all issues sold in Asia to be banned. And I think Maxim will be judicious enough to prevent such blashphemey futher and offer a public apology.

What is the threat to American public ? Damm whats next ? Terrosit threats from gandhi nazis ?

I think you are a racist bigot who is ready to demean any other race for the sake of mindless self appeasement.

Well good luck ..

Update : Sherry Shelby and Shawn C, Maxim content supervisors agree to public apology.
Good work desi bhais !!

Gandhi's principle of non violence, which he practised all his life might be a strength according to some, and a weakness according to others. To use Gandhi's image to portray someone as weak and helpless is a folly. Ignorant is the writer of that article and the readers who find it funny.
