Red, I'm not freaking.
And this gives me a good excuse to jump into this....

He got caught, he paid his fine and that was that. He never tried to fight it or evade. Even the cop that gave him ticket was impressed by that.

As to why he kept it from his daughters, how many of you have told your kids everything you did worng? Everything, in particular the worst things? I can tell you I've looked deeply into this issue as my son is now 17 years old. I want him to grow up right, and more importantly, survive into adulthood. Telling him everything, let alone the worst things I did, wont help achieve that goal. When he is old enough that he wont try emulate my actions or use them as an excuse to self destruct his life, I'll tell him if he is interested. But it would be stupid to the Nth degree to just lay all that stuff on him as a teenager, a young lad like himself just might even try to prove what a "man" he is by upping my idiotic acts of my youth. I know that trying to show my dad I was as much of man as he was led to some of my stupidity.
Some of you will disagree, but I can see Bush's position on not telling his daughters, and wanting to keep them from knowing.

As for his personal life, didnt we learn enough from Clinton? Personal is personal. When reporters throw out wild ass questions just to get answers that they can twist, IMHO the best answer is either a vague one or a nunya! The reporters are going to tirelessly seek information to prove you wrong. The more detailed you get with them, the easier for them to twist it to make you look wrong. IMHO, I think every politican should just refuse to answer the question, unless it is a very specific one.
IE: "did you do this on this day?"

I would never list my past indescretions for the reporters. Surer than sh*t I'd forget one or two or ten or a hundred of the things they would dig up and then they would accuse me of "covering up".

Gore and dope, sure he admitted it, fine non-issue.
Bush and drinking, bad things in the past, good enough for me.

Clinton and dope, didnt inhale, yeah right....
Clinton and Monica, you know how that goes.

IMHO, any of them could have said "nunya" and that would have been fine for me.

Finally, nutcase Democratic outsider looking to hurt GW, fine , no problem there either. Gut probably feels like the lone ranger saving the country, and not like the cynical, spurned politically, attention grabbing fool that he really is.

But, Dem Senators and House members, and Dem campaign people ragging on Bush, for Gore, thats BS. Gore should be his own man and rag on GW himself instead of being a p*sswad and letting others do it for him, or call in his dogs.

Yeah me too, unless he was running for President and then that is one hell of a weak excuse. >

I can respect a guy who will protect his daughters even at the cost of not being president. Difference of opionins, I guess.

This turned into quite a thread. At this point, everything's been covered more than once.

I too have to question the timing of this, in light of the fact that it was discussed months ago as Russ pointed out. And, it's no coincidence that the source is a Democratic lapdog. And, after seeing Matt Laurer interview the reporter who broke the story, it's not hard to see that she could have been played like a fiddle. However, I think it's going to be a non-issue. Most people don't seem to care either way. It was 25 years ago. It was a Class 4 misdemeanor. Big deal. I haven't talked to anyone yet who thinks it matters.

BTW, has anyone checked out the website that is run by the guy who leaked the story?

It's called "W Is For Wiener" but I can't find a link to it. It's apparently an "outlandish anti-Bush" website, according to MSNBC. Gee, that clarifies things a bit.
