The Los Angeles Police Department, Los Angeles Fire Department, California Highway Patrol, Los Angeles Department of Transportation, Metro and Caltrans want you to be ready for the coming nightmare. No, not the end of the world. For 53 dark hours in mid-July, the 405 Freeway will be closed for demolition work on the Mulholland Bridge.

They're going to have to repair every single side street afterwards with the amount of traffic they are going to see in those short hours.

Cool story bro. I get to have construction work done on the street I live on for 3 fucking months.

3 months.

local street construction is hardly more than a nuisance.

Major transportation backbones being shut down typically can be a nightmare in massive metro regions.

We had our street (which is a boulevard) completely torn down and they laid down asphalt. Been begging for it forever, and it was rather nice of them to finally get around to it.
It sucked, but it's hardly something to bitch and moan about.

Wait a minute, you bitch and moan about everything.

Carry on.

you should hang out here on those weekends when they shut down the Bay Bridge.

Speaking of traffic... WHAT THE FUCK WAS GOING ON IN CHICAGO LAST WEEKEND?!?!?! Don't tell me the Gay Pride parade accounted for the parking lot that was the Edens/Kennedy on Saturday and Sunday. I nearly left my car on the Ohio St. exit ramp and walked to Ron of Japan.

Yes because your street gets 1/10000th of the traffic in a day that the 405 sees in like a 3 mile span. Please. I just hope this doesn't screw it up down further south where I am.

Wifey takes the 405 every day...hope it does not extend beyond the projected weekend closure or it's really gonna be a mess.

She needs to take time off if it does...on the following Monday or even Tuesday. Yikes!

Beaches + Baseball Games + Terrible Chicago Traffic = Shithole.

Maybe this is a trick so that the Valley can finally secede from Los Angeles?

MotionMan (who lives in the Valley and works in the Westside. Yep, that's my commute they're messing with)

It will be closed the weekend of July 15-17th.

By doing it on the weekend,it reduces the impact. also, after the 4th means no extra holiday weekend traffic.

In an ominous news release titled “Countdown to the Closure,” public safety officials warned Friday of the planned 53-hour full closure of a long segment of the 405 freeway on the Westside in July.

The northbound 405 will be closed for 10 miles between the 10 and 101 Freeways, and the southbound 405 will be closed for four miles between the 101 Freeway and the Getty Center Drive ramps. The closure is planned for the July 16–17 weekend — beginning in some sections on the evening of July 15 and lasting until the early morning of July 18 — and is taking place because of planned demolition work on the Mulholland Bridge as part of a larger freeway improvement project.

It has been announced for almost a month.

Read the papers, pay attention to the news
