It's a symptom of a larger problem. You're probably dealing with kids that don't know how to interact with others on a professional basis. They're lazy, and only think of their own wants. Nobody's under obligation to buy after an inquiry, but they should at least write back to say they aren't interested if they change their mind. That just professional courtesy. As far as bumping a thread goes... It's nice to do, but not required. Inquiries that contain useful, non-sensitive information should be made in the open forum, and you'll then get the bump. Otherwise, I think it's the OP's job to maintain the thread.

Yup. Laziness. Being stoned all the time and unable to handle multiple correspondences.

Plus, there is no requirement to read all text in a post. Maybe they see what you have at the top and shoot a PM. I know I wouldn't read all the way to the bottom of the thread if what I was looking for was at the top. The only reason I did read to the bottom was to see what you are whining about.

I approve this message.

QFT...perhaps FST is a bit beyond you....this isn't walmart, and not everyone is really active on the forums...for some answering PM's once a week here is pushing it, other respond within seconds.

Getting a bump is always nice...if you require it then don't reply to PM's without one. I don't care either way and IMHO making a buyer bump a thread is stupid anyway as AT allows self bumps.

A PM doesn't secure anything though. If they say can you give me a day or two to get paid, then it's on me if they bail...normally I don't hold anything. First Paypal gets it.

Shit happens, its teh intarweb, people find better deals. Your example didn't even have a commitment from the buyer, just the initial offer.

Actually, I did. Offer/Acceptance = deal.

What are you, a lawyer?

It's really too bad if someone buys from somebody else - if perhaps you don't have time to respond to a PM. Its a free market here, they don't have to buy from you or I.

I agree and I have had this happen in the past, but not after 15 or 45 minutes.

The fact that it happened to me multiple times in such a short period of time got me wondering if this is happening to others or just my recent bad luck?

Meh. I find two people selling something, one is asking $20, the other is asking $15 but their post is older and might not be available. I pm them both, asking the first if he would take $15. The second one gets back to me quicker and I buy from them.

I did not wrong the person asking $20 by asking if they would take less and buying from someone else. I did not commit.

Fine, on the internet, that is how it works - I GET THAT PART!!!

However, what has changed that has caused this to happen to me multiple times in the last couple weeks - Is this is happening to others or is it just my recent bad luck?

I imagine, since there is no secret confederation of sellers who band together and swap deals as a loosely coordinated quasi-criminal federation(RICO) that you probably just had a run of the mill plane jane string of bad luck.

Has anyone else seen an increase in this type of thing happening to them?

I'm not going to say I haven't done that, but I try to send a PM immediately if I find something else.

My recent problem is shipping. People can't ship worth a shit. Just finished 3 deals with high ranking Heatware users and all three were horribly packaged. But I'll leave them positive evals, because the item arrived and still worked.

I guess, once you run out of anything useful to argue, since you know you have lost, you resort to name-calling and diversion tactics.

But I digress, back to your weak, self involved topic.

If I PM someone to make an offer, I am then not going to bump the thread and send it back to the top for others to see and by doing so, maybe bump myself out of a deal.

I will bump the thread after I complete a deal with the seller if he has more items for sale in it. If the seller responds properly and in a timely manner I may also bump the thread if I don't buy. Depends on the seller mostly. I am not likely to bump a thread for someone I wouldn't vouch for. It has happened but it's not the norm.

Hey, stop making sense. don't you know that the OP doesn't like you? Are you sucking yourself as the OP suggested? If so, can you send pics?

That's really the only thing that bothers me. If you PM, you should bump.

You don't bump if you're concerned about others snapping up what you want. I usually bump after I pay or if I don't find what I need.

I am glad you agree, considering you were the one who called me a name in this thread first, but your apology is not accepted.

But I digress, back to your weak, self involved topic.

Since all rant threads are not self-involved.

If I PM someone to make an offer, I am then not going to bump the thread and send it back to the top for others to see and by doing so, maybe bump myself out of a deal.

I see your point, however, you are focusing on a very minor point of my rant.

However, you brought up a good point. Do you believe that responding as I did in my example above and in 15 minutes does not qualify as responding "properly and in a timely manner"?

However, in the cases I cited above, the potential buyers did not even have courtesy to let me know that they had found something else and were terminating our deal until I PM'd them much later. By that time, I couldn't care less about them bumping.

It's to get out of the sale...it happens.

It's like when you get all of those emails from craiglist ads, yet only 1 will actually meet up and call...a lot of people are PMing on the hype.."oooh, it's still here, I should get it" then buyers remorse within 5-15 minutes after they thought about it. No matter how expensive the item is.

I get that it happens. Does it seem to others that it is happening more often recently?
