In the last few weeks, this has happened to me not once, not twice, but THREE times.

I have a FS thread (in my sig currently). In it I ask that if you send me a PM, to also bump the thread. Admittedly, I did not say that bumping the thread would result in me getting an email so I could respond quickly, but still, it does not seem like a difficult request. Three times I have had the following occur:


I receive an inquiry PM, but no bump.
The next time I check AT, I see and respond to the PM
We exchange PMs regarding some details
I believe we have a deal and I send my PayPal info
Then I hear nothing
I send a follow-up PM
I get PMed that, during the "delay", they found something else.


In one of them, the "delay" was overnight, but the other two were ridiculous. The last one went like this (PMs paraphrased, but the times are real):


Buyer: 02/19/2009 04:21 PM - Will you take $X for the XXXX?

MotionMan: 02/19/2009 04:36 PM - Yes. My PayPal info is XXXX@XXXX.XXX. Please include your phone number and shipping address.

MotionMan: 02/20/2009 02:37 PM - Did you get my last PM (see below)? (All prior PMs quoted).

Buyer: 02/22/2009 07:11 AM - (This one is an exact quote) "hi, i got your message, thanks but i just pick up something else before getting your message"

Apparently, responding in 15 minutes is not fast enough now-a-days?


In the other one, the response "delay" that cost me the sale was from 09:36 PM to 10:12 PM.


Has this been happening to others as well, or am I just unlucky?

i'm going to go out on a limb here and say you probably aren't going to get the response you are looking for here.

and i wouldn't sweat it, sounds like a dumb kid. they have no loyalty. 😛
 
It's no better than Craigslist sometimes, but that is the penalty of selling online.

I have 104 confirmed trades and alot more outside of that. The worst ones have been local.

On the bright side, Ive met big dealers here and made about $12,000 on $40,000 in sales. :shocked:

Todays FS/T is really nothing like it used to be.

Plus, there is no requirement to read all text in a post. Maybe they see what you have at the top and shoot a PM. I know I wouldn't read all the way to the bottom of the thread if what I was looking for was at the top. The only reason I did read to the bottom was to see what you are whining about.
 
Its the economy. That excuse always works. Fuck, even Geico used that excuse on me when it raised my rates by 10%.

I'm guilty of backing out on transactions, and I've had it happen to me plenty of times. It's not really that big of a deal, until the money changes hands nothing is final.

I don't know how many times I PM the OP with a question or an offer and I don't get a response. If the OP can't take 30 seconds to respond to my inquiry, I see no reason why I should be giving him my money.

I think that's different from the OP's issue.

I honestly haven't ever really encountered this problem! I don't sell a lot of stuff though.

Shit happens, its teh intarweb, people find better deals. Your example didn't even have a commitment from the buyer, just the initial offer.

I'm having lots of PM's lately. I usually respond and have small conversations with the interested buyers... The FS/FT forums are very helpful.

It's really too bad if someone buys from somebody else - if perhaps you don't have time to respond to a PM. Its a free market here, they don't have to buy from you or I.

 
The economy is rough right now and the forum is glutted with lots of hardware for sale at good prices, buyers have a lot of options and many are going to go with the 1st seller who meets their requirements in terms of price,shipping and Heat.
