I'll ask my girlfriend, she knows about this kind of stuff. She had a favourite opera, but I just can't recall it's name... damn!

EDIT: Of course, it's 5.40am in here, so I can't ask right away.

Well my girl likes a lot but that is just one of many things she mentioned when she was talking to her friend before a movie, I over heard it and I want to capitalize on it.

lol, just performing an ATOT tradition of asking for pics when someone posts something like this. You don't have to, although I heard it's a "Golden Rule" around here ;)

My roommates have got plenty of Boccelli though I'm not sure that's what you're looking for...

Go for anything by Verdi. Look specifically for La Traviata, Aida, and La Forza Del Destino. The overture to La Forza, while without words, is a very powerful piece of music. Any opera fan should be able to recognize it right away. Hope that helps.

If you get desperate and can't find enough Italian opera, go for Wagner. It's German opera and quite a different style, but it's still gorgeous stuff. A few suggestions: Die Walkure (The Valkyries), Siegfried, Das Rheingold, and Gotterdammerung. Good luck!

I love La Traviata. Heard Kiri Te Kanawe (not sure about the spelling and too tired to look it up) perform in it and was blown away.

Well I asked my girlffriend. She couldn't help much, because she was in an emotional state of mind (read: upset with me). But she does like the "Notre-Dame de Paris". Altrough she did say it's not 100% "real" opera, but close.

For Italian opera you have to go with stuff by Puccini. Here are two really good ones.

"Nessun Dorma" from the opera Turandot, one of my favorites :)
"Che Gelida Manina" from La Boheme, one of the most famous and beautiful arias ever written.

Try to get performances by Pavarotti, especially the first one. That's kind of his trademark song.
