The flaming on this board has become ridiculous, on both sides. I guess the current state of national and world affairs leads itself to that somewhat. Its become far worse then when I stopped posting here in August.

But here's some observations I'd like to make:

For the right:

- Stop bringing up Clinton
- Acknowledge that the current administration is capable of making wrong policy decisions
- Acknowledge the mean spirited and winner-take-all mentality that has engulfed the Republican party in recent years

For the left:

- Realize that the sky isn't falling
- Acknowledge the complete failure of the Democratic party to present a clear, positive vision for the country
- Realize that complaining about the current President here will do nothing, if you want to make a difference, get off your ass and do something about it

Thank you. For the next few months, I will be spending my free time and political energy doing what I can to help out the Dean campaign rather than reading political columns online and posting here and other places. I like to think that Dean is rising above his Bush-bashing mode now that he's built up a strong base and has become the frontrunner. I know my time working for him won't be wasted.

I suggest you all do something similar with your political fervor. I'll be back to gloat about Dean's successes during the primaries. ;)

Me too. I'm a registered Democrat in NY state and I'll be doing all I can to make Howard Dean the challenger to President Bush. I hope you attend some of my speeches.

Have fun:) And I do hope he wins the primaries:p He doesn't stand a chance against Bush once people see he has no ideas, except for being against anything Bush is for.

Kudos to you though - money(time) is where your mouth is.

I noticed that too, but decided to let it go after I saw who he is supporting...all makes sense now.

he might be referring to redistricting issues, specifically in Texas.

Here's another suggestion for you personally Monsta. You'll have less flames from the right if you act in a less biased leftist trollish manner:

MonstaThrilla consulted a Thesauras and spewith forth
Actually this a major step for the Bush junta.

So Bush & co, etc. are locked out? The generals now run things? I must have missed that...or is that what Clark 2004 is about?

Oh no it is so much more nouveau to use fun words usually reserved for some central-african country to imply that the US is no longer a democracy. Too funny that you behave like a leftist Rush but are too blind to see it. Although trolling is your speciality, isn't it PhillyHamas.?

- Stop bringing up Clinton i would rather not, but it is on occasion relevent
- Acknowledge that the current administration is capable of making wrong policy decisions
I dont know of a single person who thinks this admin has a perfect mistake free record
- Acknowledge the mean spirited and winner-take-all mentality that has engulfed the Republican party in recent years
no sure what you mean by winner take all

For the left:
-stop bringing up clinton
-realize that your party makes mistakes
-realize that no everything Bush does is a mistake, give credit where credit is due

- Realize that the sky isn't falling
- Acknowledge the complete failure of the Democratic party to present a clear, positive vision for the country

I largely agree, but the list is incomplete. Read above for additions.

Good luck following your values and helping out the dean campaign.

If everyone would just quit being little pricks and agree with everything
I say this place would be a lot better.

Well there is never going to complete agreement and I would fear the day that complete agreement does occur. However, It would be nice if certain parties on this board would realize that there are two sides to every story and the truth is often closer to the middle.

Well let's see. An election. First of the new millenium!

One candidate wins by half a million votes. The Supreme Court steps in to stop a state from continuing their vote count per state law. The candidate who lost the vote count is awarded the presidency. The civilian military leaders at the Pentagon begin making policy.

Yep, junta.

I agree that this forum has, in may cases, yielded more heat than light. I plead guilty to some of that. Part of that is the incredible difficulty of getting facts. For example, many of the people who engage in this forum think that there are weapons of mass destruction. Many think that there are not any in significant quantities. I engage in an exchange with one member and asked, how much time would he or she need before admitting that there were none. Answer: Five years. OK, I can live with that as long as the person who wrote that will genuinely examine their political beliefs at the end of that five years. I had to do that after Viet Nam and I know that the various administrations on both sides lie like rugs. But not knowing the unknowable facts is one thing. Astonishing ignorance is another. For example, there's a thread running right now on Intel building a fabrication plant on Palestinian land. The writer characterizes that as stolen land. I think that's pretty much the case. But the next person who writes, Tnitsuj, says "Right of conquest. There's a difference." That level of ignorance is frightening. Israel invaded and they do occupy the land. They did not conquer it in the sense that the acquired it to do what they want to with it (although that's what's happening in reality). Many of the threads about Israel assume that the Jews originally occupied historical Israel by themselves. That's simply not true.

I should rely on Schiller's observation but it's very difficult at times. In one of his plays he put "Against stupidity the very gods themselves strive in vain."

Why should the Republican party stop bringing up Clinton? Not too long ago, he was the star of the Democratic party. If this is what the top of the barrel is, why should we dip deeper into it?

The flaming is not a big deal. We all want to respond with a flame when we see a post that sets us off. Our Adult ego state sometimes cannot contain the Child and allows him to spew forth as a an adult child would. Sometimes the Adult has yet to become fully in control. In any event, so what. Respond in an adult manner and soon the flames will be extinguished.
A superior intellect is the best flame extinguisher!

Well I guess we fail to mention about how Florida contained Bush's brother and all his Republican goons to skew the election results and caused African-American voters to feel unwelcomed (as multiple news sources report). These AA's are typically Democratic voters.

Whether there was a lack of red carpet or funny money going on near the ballot boxes, Election '00 was a sham, just as much as Bush's Iraq war. And because an open environment for due process in the election did not happen, that sounds like dictatorship work to me.

Hence, Bush is bequeathed the crown of Dictator. Too much funny business going on in the key state.

But, and this is important... the Adult ego state can control the Critical Parent and the Child. When you see kids at play... smile... they are kids.. respond to the portion of the post that interests you. To return the flame feeds the magnitude and encourages other kids to join in.. so to speak.. :)

Shouldn't we just make one thread 'The Eternal Flame' - and let the participants beware ?

You mean like a thread called 'The Sandbox' and ask the mod for a sticky so folks can have their place to toss sand in each other's eyes? :)
Sounds good to me. But, I don't care either way. If I get flamed that's fine. If I respond in kind then it is my problem not the flamers. IMO A sandbox may be an interesting place.. I'd visit to read the posts. :)
