Well that'd be great, except that you've used all the milk crates to build your Zombipult 3000, and the homeless guys are all zombies. What'cha gonna do now, huh?

look, you stick to marketing, and i'll handle the technicals, got it?

I don't understand how his wall stops someone from going over...

Ignoring the psychological differences an eight foot wall is VERY different than your normal 5.5-6 foot wall. At eight feet you will need something to stand on to even reach the top. Furthermore, there is nothing for the person to grab on to. The concrete itself is very smooth (as opposed to brick and cinder block). The guy also mentioned adding a rounded top or glass. Both prevent someone from using that as leverage to lift themselves up.

Ever hear of a ladder?

It is not that it is impossible to get over but that it makes it far more trouble than it is worth. How many thieves carry around full ladders? Also keep in mind that they will need the ladder on the OTHER side as well. Which house is someone going to pick to rob, one that is a giant pita to even approach or the one you can walk right up to. It is merely another layer of security.

if someone really wants in, there's probably nothing you can do to stop them... but it'd keep out the casual crackhead or punk kid.

Fine, I'll do marketing.
Oh look, I "accidentally" sold all your milk crates to a competitor. Oops. Hey look, a zombie horde on the horizon! Good thing I'm safe behind my 11 foot tall concrete wall.
Enjoy using your good, technical brain while you can. Zombies love those things - extra neurons mean extra-sumptuous flavor, and lots of energy for the zombie on the go. 400 BABIES worth of energy!

Does the word "overkill" mean anything to this guy?

Granted, I'm probably going to make my own security system when I finally get a house (because I can, and because I can add stuff that the alarm companies won't)

Or raising your arms over your head? Or jumping? I feel like this is about $6000 wasted over a standard wooden privacy fence.

Yep. I'm six feet tall. With my arms extended, I wouldn't have to jump that far to reach the top. Its then just a matter of puling yourself up.

Having a wall like that is just inviting a zombie (or other, non-fictional) attack. Hiding in plain sight (blending in with the zombie crowd, a la "Shaun of the Dead", perhaps?) would be far cheaper and more effective.

Or getting a buddy to boost you up.

He says it will pay for itself within 10-15 years....how? It's not like a wood fence needs to replaced every five years.

He said pay for itself in 10-15 years...what, he going to imprison his kids?

Well...it is Texas.

We live in a very average middle class neighborhood. It certainly feels safe, but about a year back a woman was abducted from her driveway and raped. So we don't live with a "it can't happen here" mentality. And we don't live fearful either. When opportunities arise, like the necessary replacement of the termite eaten wood fence, we improve security.

So, I don't see a problem with his reasoning.

bah. if me or my brethren ever go on a rampage, his house would be number one target. Fortification like that signals there's a lot of delicious people inside

Except he's building it in his backyard.
