My car (2005 GM) locks all doors whenever it's shifted out of park, this feature cannot be turned off, IDK what kind of car she was driving but if the windows were down it only takes a couple of seconds to unlock it..

Hell, most car manuals tell you how to configure these settings. Usually involves a sequence of ignition key turns and button presses.

On mine it can be configured to unlock all doors when in park, unlock all doors with ignition off or drivers side only, those are the options, auto lock when going out of park cannot be turned off (unfortunately).
