This forum is dying....or is it just me?

It comes in waves. Everyone at some point will always say it's dying and it's not as good as it used to be.

I certainly don't find it as amusing as I did from 03-06, but maybe that's partly because I got older and changed a lot from then. Still, I feel like the quality of insults and rants has steadily decreased, independent of entertainment factor.

no, its definitely dying.
the mods instituted a "change in culture" which meant sucking the life out of the forum to make it safe and inoffense...bland.
it seems anand lost interest and moved on
and so anandtech decayed and became the play ground of mods who tried to do some weird social engineering.😛
then they split the forums to bits.
it all became a bit prudish, seems they were afraid to offend. and you see that thinking in the recent article on low female readership. i guess by their thinking blanding out the site was the only way to attract females and get more $$$

I haven't noticed any of what you're describing here, except for the splitting up of the boards (none of which affected OT).

I think you're right.

For me personally, it started to suck after they got rid of the star rating system. I mainly joined AT for the FS forums and the amount of tools in there with out of touch pricing is ridiculous. Just endless bump after bump without adjusting the price. Needless to say, I go to other forums for that now.

No surprise here... summer is over! All of the kids went back to school, and us working stiffs are just back from vacation and are busier than usual. All of that is going to impact the post count at least somewhat.

I think the forum started to go downhill when everyone got so self-referential. Diesel jeans, UPS men peeing, etc. It gets pretty boring after a while.

Bolded part is the key here. The forums are now diluted. When we had less forums, more people were naturally congregating to each. Now we have forums that most people don't visit and as such there are less people on average in each forum. I don't really understand the point of diluting the forums to the level we have seen here. To be honest, I wish it would be only a few forums total... something like computers, video games, off topic, politics and news

I think it all went downhill when they created the L&R forums. 2/3 of the most memorable threads on here where yagt, which we don't have anymore.

The mods...sure they have their favorites and darlings that can say anything and do anything without repercussions, have let some things go that didn't used to fly in the past.

yeah the "change of colture" started it. the erra of mod accountability while has been good is not perfect. there are still threads where a mod will make a threat without tagging it and you can't say when a mod is doing something wrong without being banned even when right.

splitting the forums (i think) a huge mistake. part of the fun was having all the diffrent threads going. not to mention there were some classic ones that would not be seen by many now.

hmm i recall that beinga zombie/spider thread.

and like i said in that thread before some jerks tried to derail it!

Threads like this are useless.

people who have good ideas are ignored. people who criticize are banned.

The "change of culture" thread should be enough proof on that.

This, except it started with P&N. Now there's 5 forums where there used to be just 1. It's broken up the community. I'd like to see them all back in one forum, even P&N.

It's not that the forum is dying... it's that everything has already been discussed such that 90% of all new threads are reposts. 😉
