I think it all went downhill when they created the L&R forums. 2/3 of the most memorable threads on here where yagt, which we don't have anymore.

This, except it started with P&N. Now there's 5 forums where there used to be just 1. It's broken up the community. I'd like to see them all back in one forum, even P&N.

I agree. But I also agree with most of what vi_edit said.

It'll just get worse (at least for a short amount of time) when it switches over to VB

no, its definitely dying.
the mods instituted a "change in culture" which meant sucking the life out of the forum to make it safe and inoffense...bland.
it seems anand lost interest and moved on
and so anandtech decayed and became the play ground of mods who tried to do some weird social engineering.:p
then they split the forums to bits.
it all became a bit prudish, seems they were afraid to offend. and you see that thinking in the recent article on low female readership. i guess by their thinking blanding out the site was the only way to attract females and get more $$$

yeah the "change of colture" started it. the erra of mod accountability while has been good is not perfect. there are still threads where a mod will make a threat without tagging it and you can't say when a mod is doing something wrong without being banned even when right.

splitting the forums (i think) a huge mistake. part of the fun was having all the diffrent threads going. not to mention there were some classic ones that would not be seen by many now.

I remember saying this about the forum split when it happened. A lot of people disagreed though and thought it was a good thing. I didn't think it was a good idea when it happened, and I still don't. I used to enjoy clicking on the random YAGT thread, or car thread, or home electronics thread, or health thread. Now all that stuff is in different categories that I never visit. Sure I could browse them, but it's honestly a pain to go to 5 categories when all the threads used to be under just one and you could pick and choose what you wanted to click on based on what caught your eye instead of making an effort to browse multiple categories.

IIRC most people thought it was a very very stupid idea, i still do,

all 5 "social" forums shoudl be brought back together
the 3 consumer ele forums should be merged
the 2 software threads shoudl be merged
merge networking and security
1/2 the Hardware and tech ones should also be merged in some form or another

I thought you couldn't post anything about mods, not even use the word or it was a callout and everyone got banned from orbit?

I'm so confused

The mods are certainly NOT too strict with the rules. Even some of the mods like to play around. Trust me, they're very lenient. Kids need to stop pushing their luck though.

It isn't that anybody is more strict - its that we now have more forum categories, and substantially more moderators assigned to those specific categories. Less slips through. I remember when there were strict rules about discussing anything sexual - threads weren't just locked, they were deleted. Now we have a dedicated forum that allows this (within reason).

Mods are less strict in some ways. We can actually use swear words and more adult topics now.

Mods? If anything it's the member base. Forget courtesy, that's history. Most of the time it's just dicks calling everybody but themselves idiots or retards.

The mods also unbanned a subnet IP that allowed all the people from county jail to post on here.

Because you touch yourself.

That's one thing they still ban for.
i can verify this, as my last ban was for such comments.

however, mine were because they touch themselves at night, so as long as you don't specify the time of day, i think you're safe.
