this is the answer i always give when people ask this question.
first and foremost, DO NOT get a 360 without having broadband.
i would also caution against getting one if you dont plan on getting Xbox Live
and if you have friends that are on live that is a plus

Live is what makes xbox great, and that is why it will win the console war. Nothing nintendo and sony will make can compare. my buddy didnt buy a single game for 3 months after getting his 360 and spent like ~30 bucks on live and was content.

so to recap

get 360 if you plan on getting live, otherwise stick to whats cheapest for you

I'm completely happy without xbox live. it's a great system even without it.

um youre paying 60 bucks per game then for less than 20% of what the games have to offer then.. 99% of the games out there have more on the mutiplayer side of the game than the single..

youre just robbing yourself of content..

LIVE is a must have for 50 bucks a year.. there is no reason not to get it..

Cause $50 a year is a ****** rip off, THAT in its self is a reason not to get XBlive... Maybe when they reduce it to $10 a year, I'll get it... There are plenty of online services that are free, there is no reason for it to cost $50 a year, god damn ripoff...

50 bucks a year for 365 days of lag free multiplayer bliss is not a ripoff.. thats like less than i spend per day on sodas.. break it down to a daily fee... and youll realize its nothing.

Well it looks like I'll probably be getting a 360 today, and I have to agree with the above I just have the standard XBox right now but I've had it with Live ever since I purchased the unit. Best $50 a year that I've spent for any service. I pay more than that in a few months for some of the MMOs that I play and they still have their issues. With Live I typically do not have any lag (unless the other person has a really poor connection) and the other extras that come with it are nice. I'm looking forward to the other extras that Live on the 360 offers, namely the free demo downloads among other things. Speaking of Live, is it possible to transfer my sub from my standard XBox to my 360? I don't plan on playing Live multiplayer games on the old XBox anymore (although it'll still see some usage as there are some games that I play that don't have good support on the 360) so I won't mind losing the ability to play multiplayer games on it anyways.
