Thinking of dumping the landline...

I have Bellsouth phone and DSL, but I am thinking of dropping the landline and getting cable internet. What kind of experiences have you all had with cell-only? Would you recommend it? Thx. 😀

i have been cell only for about 4 years now, and have absolutely no reason to ever get a land line again.

Edit: i did have one drawback though. I applied for a credit card, and they denied me becuase i didn't have phone service. I can't remember the bank, but i have gotten other cards without having a land line, soo....

The only problem I run into is when I either forget to charge my cell phone or I leave it attached to the visor in my car.

My only complaint with only a cell is being put on hold while calling tech support.

That's what free nights and weekends are for. 😉

sometimes u cant wait til nights and weekends for a tech support problem.

I have been mobile phone only for about two and half years. The only trouble I had was getting a Blockbuster membership card because they wanted a land line. Besides that I have had no problems.

Try getting a backup phone off ebay at a low price or something incase your cell phone has a problem sometime

Besides that, you should be fine

For that don't tell them you are using a cell phone number.

And when they insert your number in their DB and can't find it, just tell them it is unlisted.

in the other similar threads, I still have not seen a response for how to handle dialing alarm/monitoring systems or telephone line needed for satellite receivers...

if I can get these two issues resolved using a cell phone, I would do it in a heartbeat...

my buddies always harrass me about not having a cell phone. but whos phone did they have to come use during hurricane ivan, when thier service wouldnt work for a few days? thats right, my trust ol' land line.

to me, it wouldnt be worth for the simple fact what happens if you lose it? how are people supposed to contact you in case of an emergency before you can get a replacement?

i need a new keyboard. sticky keys suck.

if you just give them the cell number, can they tell it's not a fixed line number?

in most other places, cell phones have distinct 'area codes' so you are able to tell if a number is a cell phone number. but in the US, from what I know, you can't tell... so where's the problem?

you too huh ? 😉

I could never go w/o a land line. Only time I ever use my cell phone is when I leave the house. I never get a signal in my house that's strong enough to keep a call from getting dropped.

just make sure you have good signal at home with your cell and you should be fine. Last year, my roomates and I didnt have a land line and only used our cell phones. In fact I know a lot of colllege students who just used their cell phones also.
