Thinking of dumping the landline...

some institutions (banks, pizza places, CC companies etc.) have relied on a registered land line as a way to verify you truly live somewhere. it can be a hassle ifyou try to set up some of this stuff with only a cell phone. i havent been denied anything, it has just taken more effort and caused some complications.

I've done it for 5 years now and have never had a problem. The only problem is if you want DSL...I've heard you need an active line.

Cell phone only for 5 years.

I pay 40$ a month for my cell phone, and 33$ a month for cable internet. Even with all the hurrianes here in FL, the cell worked out because I could charge it on either my UPS or car battery when I needed to contact family.

It really boggles my mind why people need both land lines and cells... waste of money if you ask me.

which part of needing a landline for monitoring a home alarm service and landline for satellite receivers is not clear?

If someone can post a suggestion on that, there are some people who would really love to hear it (myslef included)....

I could never go w/o a land line. Only time I ever use my cell phone is when I leave the house. I never get a signal in my house that's strong enough to keep a call from getting dropped.

its time for new cell phone service

cell only for a few years too..no problems except the being on hold and wasting your minutes part. but that's when i use the company cell. i have spare batteries that i always keep charged for both with enough capacity to keep me going for 2 weeks without AC power.

I have Bellsouth phone and DSL, but I am thinking of dropping the landline and getting cable internet. What kind of experiences have you all had with cell-only? Would you recommend it? Thx. 😀

yeah, if you have to get tech support from India, you will need a lot of anytime minutes or just go it on night and weekends

Thought about last year. Couldn't use the TiVo or PPV on my satellite dish w/o an extra charge. Then Verizon bundled DirecTV & eliminated the problem. DSL slower but OK.
