Enjoy being a pussy the rest of your life. Leave the cigar/pipe talk to the real men.

A pussy because I value my health? I'd like to see how you real men do on the basketball court or running at some trails? That's right you won't be there. So who's the real pussies? Stay on your couch and stuff your face with mcD's and cigars.

I'm fairly certain that there's athletes who enjoy the occasional cigar (or blunt) and could beat you down fitness wise.

A pipe was the first thing I smoked regularly. I like it a lot, but I'm not into it like I once was. You could do a lot worse than corn cob as a first pipe, or any pipe really. They're good smokers, and dirt cheap. It takes some practice getting the technique down. It's much more involved than cigars or cigarettes, but that's an advantage imo. It forces you to slow down, and enjoy life.

Btw, all 3 of the pipe smokers I've known got seriously ill/died from the habit. They were full time smokers, but I'm just throwing that out there. It isn't all roses regardless of what anyone tells you. Pipe, cigar, or cigarette... none of it's healthy, but you're here to enjoy life. Do what it takes for you to enjoy it.

Why do you associate eating unhealthy with smoking cigars?

I eat healthy and run 4 days a week. Im 5' 10" @ 135 pounds and run 3 miles in 23 minutes.

For being as small as you are you should be around 20min flat. I'm the same height as you but outweigh you by 50lbs and I could outrun you. Maybe them cigars aren't working out for you.

Awww yeah. Mj is a pimp. Btw I don't have an addictive personality. I smoked cigs in high school and just quit one day because I couldn't afford to. Its not that hard..and I didn't ha e withdrawls that people always asspciate with smoking

And yes if it is once or twwice a week it won't be bad...thousdands upon thousdands of people around the glove smoke tobacco occasionally and are completely healthy. It just gets a bad rap...like aids.

I have a cheapo pipe and some tobacco I picked up awhile back. It's corncob, I picked up tobacco and cleaning stuff all for around 30 bucks or so? It was all on sale at a local smoke shop so I figured I'd give it a try. Most of the tobacco are various house blends (one of which was a cherry blend).

It's a lot different than cigars and nothing like cigarettes. There's slightly more preparation and work. I personally am able to at least get a consistent smoke out of the pipe but I'm no pro at it. It's different, I think I would prefer a cigar on most nights, but it's worth trying out if you're curious.

On the lower end stuff, I'm pretty sure smoking out of a pipe is a lot cheaper than cigars, so there's that. But of course when you're getting into the higher end stuff, it's not cheap either way. Pipes can go for hundreds of dollars, tobacco can be really pricey too. I wouldn't try it buy buying a 500 dollar pipe, (unless you're borrowing a friends or something).

"LOL I say I weigh more and run faster than you so obviously cigars are stopping you from being as healthy and cool as me! There are NO possible other factors at play here"

Are you suggesting that I am not fit?

I could do 20 mins flat. When I PT'ed with the Marine Corps I was pushing 20 mins. I smoked a shit ton more then.

Did you have nothing to say about that michael jordan post?

I might swing by this smoke shop downtown on lunch tomorrow and see what they have for starter kits. I must admit as a kid I was always facinated by corncob pipes. And since they are cheap, and not a bad smoke I might check it out. I was reading some guides on this website, saying that a Briarwood pipe would be your best bet for starting though, since they are reusable, and corncobs only last for so long and will burn out.

Is all the pipe cleaning stuff necessary though? I mean it says that the spoons to scoop it out could actually damage the wood, and you are supposed to leave a little bit of ash in there anyway to flavor it. And pipe cleaners can be had at walmart for like a dollar. I think they have sample tobacco packs for about $5 and different flavors.

Yeah, he doesn't know what he is talking about. Plenty of men in the military smoke, and are in the best shape of their lives..he's just mad because his mommy and daddy have to hack up mucus every morning because they are not very healthy. Mj smoked, and makes more than I make a year for playing a round of golf. I say again, thousands upon thousands, upon millions of people in the entire earth smoke on occassion and the lung cancer/death rate is a small fraction of the actual smokers. 5% of all smokers get cancer.

You want to leave a little cake in the bowl, not ash. Get a pipe tool that has a spoon/probe/tamper. Very useful, and cheap. Pipe cleaners work well for the stem. Cheap whisky should make a good enough solvent. When you're finished smoking, place the pipe stem up so moisture can get down to the bowl.

whats the story with this? what if i break it down and clean it everytime, should i still be doing this?

and great point about the pipe tool. makes it a lot easier to get your technique down.

I doubt any smoker is going to say "There is 0% chance I get lung cancer". We (should) all know there is a risk. Is it 100% chance to get cancer? - probably not, many people smoke and never get lung cancer. But there is a risk, some of us choose to enjoy cigars/pipes despite it. I guess some people enjoy cigarettes, but for most of the people who smoke cigarettes, it might not be a choice at this point.

It came with the bundle they had on sale. It's some small super cheap thing. It is this three piece thing, I have no idea their actual names but it includes: a patdown tool (basically a flat surface attached to a handle), a narrow steel rod type thing, and a scoop.

(I wouldn't buy this specific one, but this is what it looks like: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...GD4ZR9A0YKB92X)

The patdown will help pack the tobacco. This is when you're packing the bowl and actually putting tobacco into the pipe. I was told place tobacco in until it is full, then pack it down. You don't want to crush it, but you do want to compress it Do this about three times, and you'll build up a bowl that's full and ready to smoke.

The rod is during the smoke, you can poke a hole to allow clean air through in case the ash has become to dense or the tobacco is too tightly packed to let air through (you crushed it, didn't you...).

The spoon is just used to help clean out the pipe. On a corncob, the pipe will develop the ash really no matter what you do, you can't really scrape that off unless you tried really really hard... with a dremel. The spoon just makes cleaning out the pipe a little faster.

I don't know how long corncob is supposed to last, but it's slightly more durable than disposable. I've used it maybe 20 times or so (I don't really use it all that much) and it doesn't really feel like it's about to fall apart or anything. I doubt it'll last forever - but it's not breaking on me yet.

I'd visit a smokeshop and hear what they have to say. Try out something cheap if they have it. If they don't or tell you you need something really expensive (buy this calabash pipe for $200!) you might want to check out another store.

I heard of people just using a pocket knife to unclog the bowl.....so basically you want to leave a little resin like you do smoking weed?

edit: oh I already have one of those little multi-tools for the hookah my girlfriend owns...

I would say you're not fit. Not enough muscle mass and slow running times don't lie. Compared to the majority of people you're okay but IMO you're not.

And I'm sure MJ didn't smoke but a cigar maybe 2 a year. He was 100% focused on his health and basketball. I'm guessing he might of had one when he won a ring or had a kid but that was it.

I'd wait until it's thoroughly cool before breaking it down. You could crack a joint from expansion if it's still warm. That's probably more theoretical than probable, but with very expensive pipes you don't want to take chances.

So how soon will I be dying?
So how many cigars do I smoke a year?
Any proof that 1 - 2 cigars to month is causing my to not put on muscle mass?

Do you have anything really? Well I mean besides your chain cigarette smoking parent's with the obvious lack of self control?

Exactly. Just be careful with a knife not to carve too deep, but that would work fine.
