Thats why you have to spike it with an overdose amount of vitamin rat poison. Corpses can't sue.

Edit: It will stain skin, and it comes out the same color- eg red pee. It'll make them think they're pissing blood.

Same suggestion for me.

Laxatives are a no-no. Under the worst case scenario - someone decides to press charges - you're on pretty shaky ground...

"And, why did you lace your drink with laxatives?"
"Because I wanted to find out who was drinking my beverages."
"Ahh, so you assumed someone else was going to drink it?"
"Yes, that's correct."
"So, you're admitting to intentionally tampering with a product that you knew someone else was going to consume."

= felony (IIRC)

I'd just tell that my pipes were backed up and I needed a little additional help doing the number 2. Hopefully they'd be so disgusted they would drop the whole matter.

I have tried civil disobedience on that one, but my manager was complained to about it when I used some fragrant hand lotion.

However, I might be able to do something about the second-most ridiculous thing. Once in a while, I put a drink in the fridge with my name in permanent marker in at least 2 highly visible locations. Once in a while I go to retrieve it, and it is totally gone.

I'm thinking of planning a sting to catch the culprit. The sting would involve putting some sort of dye in the drink that would turn their lips / mouth an obvious color. Of course, I have no idea if such a thing exists. Anyone know?

Or if you can come up with another way to catch someone in the act that does not involve expensive camera equipment, I'm all ears, or eyes I guess.

bottle of coke + liquid exlax FTW!

He wouldn't be giving anyone a drug. If you put laxitives in your own drink, and someone else steals it (without permission) and drinks it. It's their own damn fault.

Shake it up. A lot. A LOT. If you here something about someone opening a soda and having it explode all over their clothes and the floor, you've got your (wo)man.

another vote for the laxatives. i did it to a roomate in college that ate everyone elses food all the time. me and my other roomates spent the rest of the night laughing our asses off while he was running back and forth to the crapper blaming his sqirts on the pizza he ate earlier. plant the laxatives then proceed to take every roll of toilet paper out of the stalls, now i dont care who you are, thats funny.

I've decided against any retribution that would jeopardize my job. What if it's the department head doing it? They have my name from the bottle.

What I'm thinking about doing instead is:

1. Nothing, it's happened twice and never with food
2. Attaching a note that it contains laxatives or medication
3. Transfer contents to an unlabelled container - mystery drink is less appealing
4. Open it, drink a little, close it, put it back in, surely no one wants my germs.

Still haven't decided which of those is best. #3 and #4 is really dangerous because someone could take a sip or spit in it and I wouldn't know since it was already opened.

Its easy to steal from a fridge, especially a can of soda. There isn't anything you can do unless it's a person stupid enough to drink an opened can.

The only thing I can think of at the moment is a bart simpson type of shake the can so much it explodes everywhere, but even that might not be reliable if you have to sit it in the fridge a few days before they take it.

Alternatively, you could try to find some very old soda that would be nasty and just put that in there.

I'm almost positive someone has discussed getting a can of soda open and adding something to it and resealing it on these forums before, in almost the same situation.

we have 4 fridges here and for a while last year, food thefts got totally out of control. even people who bring in a lunch box with their lunch got raided.

facilites installed a couple of hidden cameras and caught the fu*ckers red handed. no problems since.

What happens when someone sees me drinking something with my boss's name then? I wonder... maybe no one would care.

If only we could justify cameras. I work for a state department. Imagine the look on a taxpayer's face when he sees security cameras to prevent $0.99 sport drink thefts.

just buy one of those fake security cams and put it up one weekend conspicuosly overlooking the fridge with a note from "management" about out of control lunchroom theft and increased security

chunk of tape with a scribble on it. hard to peel off without tearing, if you do it right.

Not true. There have been a number of cases where people doing this have been charged with assault (including a teacher who did it to cupcakes she purposely left in her desk to catch kids who were stealing her stuff). Similarly, you cannot install booby traps in your house to catch/harm a burglar even though said burglar shouldn't have been in your house in the first place.

Now, if you have a medical condition and you put your medicine in your food (clearly marked), I'm not sure what will happen. I seem to recall an incident a few years ago where a guy with a heart condition mixed his nitroglycerin in his food and someone else ate it (nitro causes your blood pressure to drop). Not sure how that case was resolved.

If it's a sealed can, it might be hard to do anything.

If it's a bottle, or homemade, you have more flexibility. One drop of Blair's hot sauce should be enough to send whoever drinks it running through the halls.
