Thinking about buying a Hummer H3... thoughts?

I'm just looking for opinions on them... it can be anything from aesthetics to engine size... I'm not particular. Just no flames on SUV's... you can be a hummer hater, but at least back it up... that's all I'm asking for... because i'm looking for pro's and cons...

SO... a few things before we get started... I know you're all going to be like "why a hummer... not a ______ (pick your SUV)?"

Well...
1. I've been a hummer fan since the H1's... the perfect "guy's" vehicle... But back when they first hit the market I wasn't even old enough to drive. Even now an H1 is way out of my price range. Now I'm coming out of college earning some decent money, I can afford an H3. So the whole "guy's vehicle" is a pretty sizable factor as to why I want one.

2. I currently drive a Jeep Wrangler, and I think an H3 is a glorified Jeep.

3. an H3 is in my price range

My only concern is that the H3's have a fairly small engine... which really didn't have much of an affect on me, considering that right now I have a 4 banger jeep with oversized tires, speed isn't really a factor for me. But I do care about moving a vehicle around that is the size of the H3. I've heard rumors that the 2008 model is going to have a larger engine... right now they have a 3.7 liter engine (I believe) and they're talking about a 3.9...

as far as other SUV's, they just haven't peaked my interest, at least until recently when I saw the Dodge Nitros... and Jeep Commanders even then, ithey're still 2nd to the H3.

So what do you all have to say to me about them? or the other vehicles I mentioned?

Thanks for your help, I really appreciate it.

Those things are huge. Some guy that lives near me has one in black, it looks quite nice. I assume they're quite expensive too?

It's too underpowered for me. About the same power as the 4.0L I6, but 1,200 more pounds.

I'd rather have a four door pickup with a short bed. What's the towing and load capacity on the H3?

I think the H1 and H2 are huge manly vehicles. However, for you money I think you can get a much better "manly" vehicle than a H3. I think the H3 has the Hummer name which makes it seem cool, but I don't see it being overly powerful on or off the road. However I would not make fun of you if you had an H3.

H3 is a wannabe girly Hummer. It just looks like a little puppy Hummer.

H3 = yuppie woman car. Look at the advertising...it's clearly marketed to woman and I have never seen a man driving one.

It's underpowered and just bloated looking.

For a functional small/midsize, go for an Xterra. Great engine and rides great both on and off road.

The H2 and H3 are over priced versions of GM trucks. They also suck off road. Get a Nissan Xterra. I love mine.

The Federal Highway comission has ruled the Canyonero unsafe for highway or city driving.

I don't hate SUVs, I hate the people who can't drive or park them properly. (95% of all SUV owners :p)

I would not buy a hummer. The company was defined because Arnold Schwartaneggar bought one back in the day. They sold like hotcakes to the elite for a little while, but then slowed.... Eventually, it was clear that they needed to come up with another model to help boost sales. The H2 was smaller, less rugged, and had more features of a luxury vehicle and was definitely priced like one. The H3 is a continuance of Hummer moving away from their roots. While the price is lower than the H2 and it gets better gas milage, it's still not worth the money. You'd be better off investing in a Land Rover or a Japanese SUV (pathfinder, 4 runner, etc).

To recap on the paragraph and summarize: Hummer achieved diversification on thier flagship product and have since been conforming to luxury markets. They can't compete as well in these markets as other more established brands, thus their future is questionable.

Xterra owner here too. I liked the H3 but not enough. It just didnt seem to have the rugged feel that mine did.

Plus, my mom was looking at it too so I decided against it.

I don't hate SUV's, but if you're going to blow the money, get a real surplus one, not the fake plastic shell on a truck chassis.

Dude....the H2 has that huge console thing in the middle. It's not good for dates. Take Cake's advice....Stickshifts, safety belts, bucket seats have all got to go. Slide that b!tch over next to you, just keep your hands on the wheel.

Get a Toyota Yaris. With the money you save you can get that penis extension you've been dreaming about.

Im not sure how much this applies to you...

But the best idea that i have ever heard regarding hummers, would be to buy an old military hummer, and then restore it.

that would be badass, and you would not see anyone else with the same car as you. Plus you could put a bigass engine in there. build it with a turbcharger, that would be rad.
