When someone is on my ignore list, I really don't care about anything that they say. However when someone quotes them, then I can see what they posted. Can you make it so that the people on the ignore list are never seen. Other forums are like this.

Stop with all the useless sub-forums. Virtually no one posts in many forums, meaning virtually no one browses them, meaning the few posts that do go there just languish often unread. Plus it is really hard to determine the proper place to post. If your video card is not working on a motherboard in Windows 7 is this a post for "Video Cards and Graphics", "Motherboards", "Computer Help", "General Hardware", or "Operating Systems"?

I would look back over the last few months and eliminate any sub-forum with fewer than an average of 5 new threads/day. Merge them into forums with actual traffic so users get their questions answered and their thoughts seen.

For example, when I click on Power Supplies, I get on the first page posts that are 1 month old (that doesn't count the 6 stickies). That sub-forum just isn't used. Same goes for "Cases and Cooling" and "Peripherals" which all really belong in "General Hardware".

For example, what is the difference between SFF and HTPC? They are essentially one and the same with just a slight tweak in usage.

For example, the "*nix Software" sub-forum only shows 19 threads TOTAL in the last month.

Deleting the useless sub-forums would really help with making the site more clean, give more users more threads to view without having to click on dozens of pages, and give more visibility to new users who put posts in unused sub-forums then quit the site disappointed. And for the dedicated long-term posters, it would help us from loading a page 6 hours later and seeing nothing new (boring). I cut back my posting about 95% when all these sub-forums popped up since it is too boring to see nothing new and too tedious to click on 20 forums that might interest me.

ive been saying this for years
and more forums keep getting added.......

Id leave the CPU forum and the vid card forums seperage but merge Mobos, Memory, Power Supplies, Cases and prehip back into gen hardware. HTPCs and SFF can go together as well

Move the *Nix stuff into ther OS forum, you could prob move security into the Windows software forum as well as thats what most of it is

P&N and Discussion club just need to be mreged as they are the same thing at this point

The forum can definitely use a facelift, it hasn't changed its look for over 6-7 years if I remember correctly, possibly even more.

I think just updated icons and buttons and things of that nature, make it a bit more modern, more 2015. Right now it definitely feels like a decade old.

[wysiwyg editor] Already exists. Go here, scroll to near the bottom, and select the Enhanced Interface from "Message Editor Interface".

My profile is already set to "Enhanced Interface - Full WYSIWYG Editing" -- but I still have to edit my posts in this box with the markup commands, then preview my post, then come back to make corrections. I'm using the latest version of Google Chrome so I don't think it's a browser problem.

Add the ability to rate other people's posts!!! Add an overall poster rating to for each user.
That won`t fly!! Anybody who you have ever had a issue with will get totally trashed by you when it comes to rating their posts...that's just not a smart idea...

Wouldn't the Discussion Club cover what you're looking for?

Maybe tweak it's name to Philosophy and Discussion Club?

In my opinion, Discussion Club is P&N without the trolling. It is a place to discuss current affairs and context without the distractions and immaturity of the P&N.

So a separate Philosophy subforum would be nice. It will really let the members discuss their beliefs, discover new ones for themselves and more importantly speculate on things unknown yet.

Cease locking necro posts solely for being necro posts, and lock only when the reviving post is a troll, or truly isn't related enough to the original post. Protect revivals of threads where the new addition is well-thought and enhances the thread.

Edit:

Also, add a Movies, TV shows, Books subforum (Maybe music too? if not a separate one for that)

:colbert: What he said.

This is a terrible idea. I am on these forums almost every day trying to help people. Many others do the same. Why would we want to pay for doing something that, in most other circumstances, we would be the ones getting paid?

You would clear a lot of the rif-raf, but you would also be killing a lot of what makes these forums as good as they are.

1) Allow TheFlyingPig back w/o any strings attached.
Everyone knows this

2) ability to block users from posting in a thread you created.

3) if a thread has no new posts in a year, auto-lock it to prevent necro threads.

Ok, we have a Home and Garden sub-forum, which is fine. But no sports? I know we're all computer nerds, but there's surely as many people here interested in sports as there are growing tomatoes.

Just delete outright P&N. Anandtech is a tech website and forum, and allowing all the racism and other bigotry on these forums is just sad.

I know it probably is too big a job to moderate it into some sort of decency, so just close it outright. It won't be missed and doesn't effect the mission of Anandtech.

To be clear, it's the people you disagree with that should be censored? And you only want to do this because those people are so objectionable that no one should have see the things they say? Wouldn't it make more sense to ban those people? Obviously they don't conform to our standards, why should we want them around at all?

There is already a "Decent" P&N. Why would you want to deny folks who enjoy P&N the opportunity to have some fun. Its Simple if you dont like it then don't visit it, that way you cant be offended or outraged by whatever.

Why does Anandtech have to allow people to have "fun" anywhere, let alone when it is full of trolling, racism, and other bigotry?

It isn't needed as this is a technical review website and forum, so P&N isn't important. Allowing a bunch of trolls and bigots to have "fun" doesn't matter.

People come here for mainly techincal/technology issues....letting them stumble into P&N isn't helpful.

Actually, it is a browser problem. Sort of. The WYSIWYG editor is broken in Chrome. That would be a good thing to fix. (Potential route to a fix linked from there.)

jpishgar, thank you for eliminating down time. Your quick response was terrific.

Now if you could bring back 2 emoticons: the rose and the cookie?

Done.

This request has been approved and is being processed. Due to the holidays, we expect the change will take place within a matter of weeks. Our objective will be the complete elimination of the downtime period, rather than a rescheduling. You may see another downtime or two before we are able to enact this change, but it is approved and in process.

Much appreciate everyone's feedback so far - please keep them coming. 🙂

Thank you very much.
