no way, the worst is when they see the adds that look like computer warnings that shake around and say crap like "your computer is not optimized for internet", or "you may have a virus" and they click on them.

argh i hate that

I do that....

I hate morons that piss me off by getting DSL when all they do is occasionally surf the net or download an MP3 or two.

why do you hate that? if the companies are getting more paying subscribers, they add more bandwith to the service, and if they add more bandwith to the service (atleast here in Canada) you can grab as much bandwith as you want. So you're taking the bandwith they paid for.

The opposite often happens to me. Someone will ask me "What kind of computer do you have?" and I tell them "a Pentium 4 with ..." and then they say "Is it a Dell?" or sometimes even "Is it a Mac?"

That and he reads every g*damn EUA from beginnig to end.

This one dirves me nuts when my mom spends twenty freakin minutes reading every word of the license agreements and sometimes even asks me about what certain phrases in it mean. AS IF IT MATTERS!!!

A friend once asked me "What server do you use?" I eventually found out he meant search engine. I also had someone tell me their "memory was congested" one time.

Another thing that pisses me off is that computer newbies don't realize that when a computer goes to hell it is usually do to operator error and not hardware error!!

a long time ago a had a heated debate with a friend of mine: he claimed that an intel pc was completely located inside the keyboard, and the big box was just the harddrive and fans to cool the harddrive. the funny thing is, he was a pretty computer savy person with interest in programming. his main argument was that a C64 (we were both using them at the time) was located in the keyboard.

When someone tells me that their computer is broken or it isn't doing what they want, I just tell them that it must be a "user error." They still don't seem to understand.

Been there done that...had a heated discussion with a customer last night who also could not understand that concept...I am a firm believer some people where never meant to use a PC :D

I don't like how people aren't willing to learn new things when it comes to computers. My dad went through four years of undergraduate education, four years of medical school and numerous additional years in several residencies.

But three weeks ago, our Comcast HSI was really slowing down and he MADE me drive home from college (granted it's only 15 minutes or so) so that I could tell him, "Yup, it's the cable connection - not the computer," and call Comcast and have them roll a truck for him. You'd think he'd be open to learning new things.

definitely the hard drive/ram thing i hear all the time. i also have a hard time getting people to understand that a faster cpu won't help them get faster download speeds...if they have a modem, they need to get dsl or cable.

funny story: i gave my dad my old computer, and the on/off switch came a little loose, so it wouldn't always turn on. i went to visit my dad once and he had invented this whole ritual of turning on his computer...he would jiggle all the cables on the back, tap the tower a few times, then take the cover off for a few seconds and put it back on, and then turn on his computer...funny thing is, this actually worked because i guess it would shake the contact on the switch back again. needless to say, i just took off the front, and taped the contact back on there. :)

Hey I do that, and I'm in IT. :)

My dad however, wonders why the cursor doesn't move when he moves the mouse - in mid-air...

Tell them they have a screw loose in front of the computer. ;)

The whole deal with the monitor being the "computer" can be blamed on the bloody iMacs. :disgust:

Just think, if alll the morons were actually computer savvy:confused: If that was so, we couldn't/wouldn't make near as much money working on other peoples "CPU" or "Harddrives." I say let the morons be, and we will continue to make money:D

My boss does that, he types really fast though... it's weird to watch.

I used to work at an insurance company and this tech used to come in and just eff everything up on a weekly basis and I'd have to fix it... so the IT manager called me one time and asks if everything is ok, I said, "Yes, everything is fine. Jim (the tech) created an ID 10 T error the first time around but I fixed it, and he checked my work

and everything was fine."

He said "Ok, lemme log that, do you have the text that accompanies the 1D 10 error when it pops up in Windows?" I said I didn't, he reminded me that it's imperative that I write down exactly, word-for-word, each error message I receive. :D

I used the old idiot joke a few times when I was there, only one person ever knew what I was talking about.
