I'm in the 10th grade, and I can honestly say that they are the dumbest group of 10th graders I've ever heard of.

Those were all the gems for today. If I run into any more in my travels, I'll be sure to post em up here.

Yes, I already know.

Whenever I go to Antarctica I make sure to bring two things: a warm pair of socks and a bag of rocks. It gets damn cold there.

They might as well ask, "Why does any life form exist in any harsh environment?"
Earth is a pretty mean place. Heat some places is enough to kill, lack of heat elsewhere can kill, places without water, places where the water is so salty it can be toxic, places where the water is several hundred degrees (deep sea vents), and the planet is bombarded with ultraviolet radiation that damages DNA.

Life survives where it is able to, simple as that. Penguins evolved down there, they adapted to the cold. It's not like they can say, "Screw this, I'm moving to Kenya!"

There's always one or two kids that can easily make an entire class look stupid. Take any normal group of kids, and let the stupid one(s) speak up first, and that group is labeled stupid for months to come. But it does make for a helluva funny story.

My friend was showing the new King Arthur movie (with Kiera Knightly) in his class, and some girl asked "Is this how they are fighting in Iraq right now?"
Unfortunately, I can't think of any stories from my personal experiences right now, but up until the last month of school, when I was teaching 10th grade chem, there were still students that I had to repeat to that electrons are negative. Granted, they never really paid attention in the first place ;)

edit: don't forget, if you ask were to ask random Americans what a feather would do if it were released 3 feet above the ground on the moon, a significant percentage of them would reply "it would float away." And a significant number would point out, "we don't know, because we've never been to the moon."

not enough information. we need the wind speed and direction to calculate that

Excellent! :)

is my sarcasm meter broken?

Lol. Pwnt. Whatever happened to there's no such thing as a dumb question? You had to kinda figure that was BS when teachers would say it.

Also, it's not that dumb of a question. It's actually an amazing story and I'd have relished the chance to explore all the topic involved in it. But, hey, coming here to mock them is almost as good. Truly, you are underpaid.

Not that easy - when a teacher leaves me a lesson plan, particularly a movie, it's almost always for the entire class period. To stop the film and give a detailed lesson on the Moose, which granted, I am ill-prepared for, would be difficult at best.
