The Americans who speak Spanish at home and use English as a second language, the illegal invaders, are NOT going anywhere. The premise of the BBC propaganda article is that the 'problem' is 'solved'. Hah...

The article is counting a subset, masking the reality that the size of the foreign population is absolutely staggering. Even IF immigration stopped entirely, integrating with those already here is going to continue to be a significant challenge to the future of the United States.

People who lived in what is now known as Texas spoke native and foreign languages long before the official language became English.

It's true that there were some Spanish speakers in the current territory before the US took control, but the vast majority of Spanish speakers in the US are not their descendants. They're mostly immigrants from central America.

This is really sad. Mexico has been a great source for assimilated Americans, helping balancing our society with its hordes of unassimilated Americans (typically morbidly obese conservatives such as Tea Party members and the like). Hopefully immigration from Poland or Somalia or somewhere else can be increased.

Lets start treating race like we do hair color.

Sure you can say you can prefer blonds or make fun of gingers in a tongue and cheek sort of way but at the end of the day we are all the same.

Thats a great idea, but only White people talk like that...If Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton, La Raza, the Islamic groups would start doing the same then maybe that concept would get somewhere [dont count on it though!].

heh

It must be getting hard for you to defend the US, when your surrounded by so many posters who contradict everything you think the US is

Thank God. Everytime I visit Richardson, Texas I feel like English is fast becoming a foreign language. Unacceptable.

So the southerners are leaving? Because, god damn, what most of them speak certainly isn't "English".

"Slurmrble murb... mrmble mrrb... mrbrble mrb br murb."

"Yull fixnta git-er-dun?"

Wut?

This is more preposterous than your last post.

Pro tip: ease off the ranting until you learn to read and write properly.

Opportunistic media whores exist in every spectrum. Does that somehow invalidate an entire race?

The world is changing.

Besides the obvious irony, "Honk for English," isn't even a proper English sentence.

So Latinos or Hispanics that speak Spanish are not a race? There's no doubt who is disgust is directed towards in the op.

Latino and Hispanics are not a race and those terms are merely geopolitical and social constructs to describe the multitude of individuals that inhabitants the nation of Mexico, along with Central American and South American nations.

If you want to talk a about "Race" then the correct term would be "Mestizo" which describes someone of mixed European and Native heritage of varying degrees. Also before anyone ignorantly states "Mexican" is a race lets get this clear "Mexican" not a race but a nationality which was founded after Spain began to lose their dominance and colonies in the "New World". Prior to that these people were subjects of Spain and its monarchies and prior to that the area known as Mexico was the native home/nation of the Aztec Empire who was conquered and destroyed by the Spanish speaking Europeans and their native allies. Sorry for the history lesson but really this shit of blurring race and nationality is absurd sometimes, especially when it's used to throw out the racism card.

Your point is pretty irrelevant. There were also people who lived there originally before the formation of the nation known as Mexico or before the Spaniards and other Mestizo's came around and they had their own native language which was not Spanish. However that is all moot now because today in this life time the area known as Texas is part of the United States of America where in English the dominate language spoken for those who want to succeed in life.

Awesome. I hope we adopt their immigration laws and zeal for the enforcement of those laws.

actually it is - it's a command 😉

it's no different than "press 1 for english, 2 for espanol" 😛

the subject is implicit (you), the verb is honk (press), and the indirect object is english

And who the hell taught you that those are sentences? It is a chopped down version of, "Press 1 to be directed to a representative who speaks English, 2 to be directed to a representative who speaks Spanish." "Press 1 for English, 2 for Spanish," is not itself a complete sentence. "English" is just a straight noun, so it's like saying, "Walk for car."

You may leave the country now.

"press 1"

that by itself is a sentence. it has a subject, verb, and a direct object. just because it isn't as complete as you think it ought to doesn't mean it isn't a sentence.

(you) press 1.
