Alright well neither of these beasts is necessarily a "puppy" anymore, but figured I'd update with a couple pics from over the weekend. The pup is just shy of 2 years old and his big sister just turned 3. Bulk dog.

they haven't figured out they can go right over that fence?

Surprisingly, the dogs ain't getting any smaller, eating any less, or taking tinier poops. Haven't seen my son in a couple hours - will check tonight to see if the dog poops him out.

Wow awesome dogs. I've always wanted a large dog like that but am intimidated by the size. Do you care if I ask ya a couple questions?

How bad do they shed? We have a Collie now and the hair drives me crazy.
How active are they? Would a 1500 sq ft home with a nice sized back yard be enough room?
Hows training like? Our Collie is very mind full and well behaved even from puppy. Are Danes the same?
What are the vet/grooming bills like? At 65 pounds our Shelby pushes the limits of most vets and groomers in our area.

The sad thing about Great Danes and other large dog breeds is that their life expectancy is on the short side (about seven years).

In laws have one, sweet dog, but like you said, not very smart, and theirs is pretty high strung. And holy hell it's huge.

I'd say they are average shedders if you've ever had a short-haired dog. You'd think they would shed much less given the short hair, but they make a mess which is harder to clean than a long hair dog (as long hair tends to clump together rather than just blanket the floor).

I don't think training is all that different from other dogs we have had.

They are mostly couch potatoes in the house. A 1,500 sq ft house would be fine. They like to run but after a couple times around the yard they are pooped and ready for the a/c.

Vet bills are... fun. Everything is bigger. Vet bills. Food bills. Etc. They don't get groomed. They get sprayed with a hose and washed down in the back yard.
