They grow like weeds... Official Jeeebus' great dane puppy thread

Because I'm swamped at work but don't want to be productive, figure I'll do some growth tracking in this OFFICIAL thread (caps lock mandates its officious nature).

So here was the new pup at about six weeks old (born Nov. 9, 2010):

FIRST UPDATE: Puppy as of January 31, 2011:

She is growing so fast it is ridiculous. Don't really notice it until you try to pick her up and realize it is no longer an easy task. Everywhere we go, people comment on the size of the paws. I really only notice the size of her legs. She eats twice a day, and currently eats 1 /2 cup dry food, two scoops of boiled chicken, three wild ducks, a suckling pig, and the occasional elementary or middle school aged child.

Will update again in about a month.

Her body is growing but her mind is not. My guess is that she still acts like she's small. I know mine did. But, now he's very cognizant of his size. Rarely does he accidentally step on us or paw us like our staffordshire terrier does (another large dog). He does however like to go between our legs, even though he's taller than my inseam (I'm 6' tall).

UPDATE: March 2011 - Puppy is now 4 months old. She's eating something like 8 cups of food, twice a day. I've taken a third mortgage on the house just to feed her. Also paying significant money buying extra strength lawn debris trash bags - the poops... they're... large.

She's now bigger than our American Bulldog.

Good looking dog you've got there. First time I ever saw a great dane in person, it was a super friendly one. Came running up to me, stands and puts it's forelegs on my shoulders and proceeds to slobber up my face. 😱 I'm 6'5".

Anywhere between 125 - 150lbs. Hopefully no more than that. Her dad was in the range of 180 - 210.

I know what you mean! Mine is almost 4 months old. He is a leaner and loves getting between my legs. A huge baby. These pics were at 3 months:

She is fed a strict diet in the exact proportion of 34% protein certified USDA AA Angus beef, 22% high prairie organic Idaho potatoes, 31% wild (not farm raised) fatty fish-fillets, generally consisting of sockeye salmon and/or halibut, and 13% hi-grade bullshit.

If that is not available, she gets whatever dry food we've been feeding her, plus any ducks, small children, and feeble elderly she can catch.

My saint is about 130 and I think that is about as big as I would want for a dog that lives inside with you. She's giant but I can still pick her up if I have to and my gf can at least slow her down if she decides to take off when on the leash.

Yes, b/c feeding crap food is better. Feeding the proper diet will also ensure the GD doesn't grow to fast which can lead to numerous health issues. I see lots of GD's with hip/leg issues and some are very young.
