They can pry my cave fire from my coal dead hands.

Gaslight the gas stove. Those poor poor Neanderthals.

What next? Next thing you know and the Democrats will be coming for our oil lamps and clubs.

Such a funny bunch.

The brouhaha kicked up after a peer-reviewed study in the International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health found that 12.7 percent of childhood asthma cases in the United States can be attributed to gas-burning stoves.
There are 5.1 million children with childhood asthma.

Gas stoves are attributable to 647,000 children having a lifetime disability that dramatically decreases their quality of life, limits their economic opportunity, and leaves the tax payer with a life time of medical bills to pick up the tab for.

Asthma costs the United States $81.9 billion dollars annually.

Just ban the things indoors where children might be present.

There are no plans for the govt to take gas stoves from people. That’s a bunch of Fox News hype to rile people up and keep up their woke trope.

In the works is a possible $850 rebate to replace your gas stove. Statement already issued

I’ve used gas all my life. No plans on changing. I bought a new gas range 4 years ago. I notice more of a gas smell when oven turned on. Didn’t have that with last 25 year old stove

I would think there is a way to make ignition more efficient and built in vent on stovetop

Since we can’t have any gun laws they should just rename the ATF to be Alcohol Tobacco and Fire. The agency’s new mandate would be repurpose the Obama gun confiscation vans to Biden gas range confiscation vans.

I had a gas line run to my kitchen (didn't have one) to eventually replace my existing electric stove but I'm reconsidering for both the health and environmental aspects. But no way I'm sticking with these damn coils. They're terrible.

Agreed. Radiant glass tops are better but induction is better still. The problem for some is aluminum pans as well as tin lined copper pans that may have cost a fortune to buy won't work on it. For budding chefs copper can now be had with stainless for induction.

Moved to a place with gas going to the stove, for the first time in 15 years. Given the limited electrical input to the house, replacing it with electric will never be an option.
But before that, my entire childhood involved gas stoves.

What the hell are they going on about?
They say it is bad, but the articles seem piss poor at explaining the danger.

From the replies here... are you saying it has been found to cause asthma?
My understanding of asthma is that it is a genetic weakness that you are born with. Not caused by anything environmental.

I’ve read a little and I think the issue is you are burning gas which already can produce CO2 CO along with a smattering of more nasty chemicals from heating food and oil. Also throws a lot of small particulates into the air. All of which can exacerbate or cause respiratory problems.

They recommend running the exhaust fan whenever you cook.

For what it’s worth we just added a 5 burner gas stove 2 years ago and cannibalized our 240V stove line for the electric car charger.

A problem "solved" by proper housing ventilation.
Which we could all use regardless.
Living further north than I ever have before, and no open windows for months at a time is noticeable.

Cast iron pans and an induction stove .. it takes a little getting used to but you control the heat SO much better and faster.. when you say crazy hot, it's about a second and its actually crazy crazy hot. My steak searing has improved a factor 10 since I got mine.

Induction rocks. Heats so much faster than a glass top or coil stove. Stuff doesn’t burn to the cook top so clean up is always easy.

You can’t upgrade your electrical service ever?

I've cooked with gas, I've cooked with electric; haven't used induction, but have heard it's a superior form to electric and potentially gas. And I've seen a lot of pro chefs shifting their home cooking to induction. Anyway, no gas cooking is fine.

Getting rid of natural gas in the home will a) help reduce indoor air pollution, b) reduce the need to build out natural gas infrastructure, and c) reduce the need to extract it from the ground. I'm sure gas companies would love for natural gas cooking to remain a thing, since it makes it easier for people to have gas hookups and then have gas heating. But indoor air pollution is real, and so is climate change, so let's find ways to reduce our overall fuel burning.
