I still don't understand why "leash" = inattentive parenting...
If a kid were "leashed" and staked in the front yard with Fido... I'd understand.
You folks that think leashes are bad... How do you feel about play pens? Why are Strollers any different than a leash? How is being in a stroller any more attentive than being on a leash?
