These should be illegal in the USA - Child Leashes

Regs

Lifer
Leashes for children.

Saw it in the mall a few months ago but was brought up in a recent discussion. I was absolutely appalled by it and how irresponsible it shows the parents are.

Last thing I want to see is children on leashes being pulled by their parents right next to their pets. I wanted to pop the father in the face for keeping his 5 year old daughter on a leash for thousands to see.

Safety? Sure. There are many times where I remember running off away from my parents in public places, but luckily there where actually decent people around to return me or a security guard that would catch me. Lets face it, verbal communication and discipline does not always work with youngsters. That's when parents resort to sedative drugs.

Drugged up kids on leashes. What's next? Kids in bubbles?

nothing wrong with having a leash on a kid. It's a good safety measure to keep your kid within reach and to not let the kid run away. I think it would be irresponsible not to have the kid on a leash because when you're shopping it's very hard to keep your eye on the kid. Kids will tend to run all over the place and there's always the possibility that someone might snatch the kid up.

kids wander off. i don't see what the big deal is. better having a leash on a kid than the kid being kidnapped or hit by a car.

i didn't use the lease thing. i just pay attention to what my kids are doing

i also avoid taking them shopping when possible

i think it looks funny too, but some kids would just bolt and need to be on one of these.
it's not cruel, these parents are smart.

that, and avoid restaurants, grocery stores and most other public places.

Are these kids being led around by their necks? Or are you talking about the leash that attaches to their wrist...if its by the wrist i don't see a big problem with it...kinda just like holding onto their hand. I've never seen anyone being led around with a leash around their neck though...that would look kinda odd.

i think they clip around their waist or are like harnesses

Illustrated in the link I've posted.

Ok, some are saying we should keep the wild ones "Restrained". However others act like it should be a regulation. All kids on leashes.

Why not criminals and ex cons?

Edit:This would make one hell of a SNL skit. Oh...it was, Mike Myers on the playground tied to the jungle gym.

That mentality is the problem. Better PAYING ATTENTION to your kid than putting them on a leash. You morons wonder why things like colombine happen. Geesh

Just checked out the link..shouldve done before posting earlier...but it doesnt look that bad. Looks just like a harness...its not like their being lead by the neck or anything. Yeah its always good to pay attention to ur child, but you can't watch them all the time. They can wander off and get lost in the crowd for that split second that your looking away.

Resentment towards the leash?

well a leash on a dog is designed to protect him from being run over or from attacking other dogs, if a dog did not have a leash, it would bolt into traffic just to chase a cat

toddler sees something shiny, bolts right into it. mother sues for lost wages:
http://www.cnn.com/2003/LAW/12/26/toddlers.claim.ap/index.html

Mader blamed the boy's injury on a green railing, which she said blends in with the landscaping. Mader said the railing should be painted a brighter color.

somehow i think if the railing had been a different color, the toddler still would have hurt his head. i'm sure the mother would figure out a way

i asked my mom that once....why parents can't just leave their kids at home or with a sitter when they go shopping, etc. It'd seem so much easier...and makes shopping a much more pleasant experience for EVERYONE else.

but...sometimes you just can't find a sitter...sometimes you go out to eat at restaurants with family...or whatever. Just b/c you have a kid, does that mean you can't ever do anything in public b/c your kids might disturb others?

::shrugs::

No way, as a non child having type of person I thank them for restraining their kids. I wish they'd consider muzzles too.

Sitters are a pain in the ass and expensive. A quick trip to the grocery store it's not feasible to get a sitter. If you can leave the child with your SO it's a good idea, but in terms of kids acting like little bastards in stores I think threatening to take them out of the store will work...well, not if you're trying on clothes, but if they are being a brat in toys-r-us such a threat if carried through will hold a lot of weight in the future.

And the rest of us thank you for it!

I think along with a leash parents should gag their little brats, especially at Resteraunts and Movie Theaters!

I am the father of a 6 year old girl, a 2.5 year old boy and a 1 year old girl. I went to the mall a Christmas with the 2 older ones. I used to laugh at the moms and dads that used the leash until I realized I was holding them close to me by the hoods of their sweatshirts. What's the big deal? They aren't being dragged or humiliated. Even if they were humiliated.... I don't care. It is my job as the father to make sure they are safe and I will do whatever I can to make sure it happens.

Don't even get me started on how I would feel if they were abducted because I didn't have them by the hood or a leash. Can you imagine? My child was abducted because I didn't want to embarass him by wearing a "leash" around his wrist or a harness.

Why do people insist on telling others how they feel? How do you know that the kids don't feel safer or less embarassed since dad isn't having to scream "DANNY, Get back over here!" whenever the dad can't see the kids because they get 5 feet away and have a solid line of people between him and his kid(s). Saying "Danny, get back over here" in a normal tone wont work due to the dull humm of the stores and traffic.

You have a very valid concern, Game. But you can only take the "what if" comments so far.

What if I didn't wear my seat belt that day I plowed into a suv at 40 mph... or what if I didn't call out sick that day on a 9/11 flight.

What if God himself didn't create life.

See the point?
