I'm kinda like you when it comes to wasps. Maybe not quite as bad.
My approach would be to get some wasp spray with the long range jet and kill it with that. The stuff leaves an oily residue that you'll have to clean up afterwards, but if you're even fairly accurate you won't get any outside of about a square foot around the wasp.

Couple that with the wasps body that's covered in acid, you'll lose the eye in the process.
I ask you.....is it worth it?.....

Hah! Your number is correct, but you forgot that air isn't 100% oxygen. It's about 18% oxygen.
18% of 11 days is 1.98 days. I added the extra day on for the OP, because I think he wanted to be sure the wasp was dead.

Now I can't get the image out of an acid dripping wasp jamming it's ovipositor into my eye while I sleep, and then waking up with wasp larvae boiling out of my consumed eyesocket and boring slowly into my brain. Thanks...
By the time the larvae begin hatching you'll be a vegetable so there's no need to worry.

Actually, as much as I dislike spiders, they don't freak me out. Only flying/stinging insects do.

Vacuum cleaner. 
Just make sure you leave it on for a bit while you spray some raid in there. To be extra safe tape the end after you turn it off. It will eventually die in there.
Though usually what I do is just sneak up to it and squish it with my finger. It's easier than trying to use an object and possibly miss. You only get one shot at killing a bug like that. Make it count. When using your finger you want to get the side of the stinger compartment (guess that would be the butt?), not the end. The stinger will come out as it is being squished. Don't go for the head, it may just make the whole thing tilt from the force and stinger will come right at your finger.

Another options is a sprayer with Javex in it, and a bottle of Windex. Spray both on the wasp at the same time and run. *blendtec guy voice* Don't breathe this!
Step 1: Get an ignition source. Something like a candle is preferable. Matches or a lighter will work.

Oh sure. No clue about evolution. You miss a couple of the survivors and then they have babies. The babies will be more likely to survive. It's a finished basement, so I'm not sure where there would be holes. I haven't found any.
