Why do you feel it is necessary to push people away from a fundamental aspect of their voting rights? While I generally agree that it is every person's civic responsibility to vote, taking the right to abstain away from them is simply assinine.
Also, your claim to the above right is silly. I have made a concious decision to abstain which is within the bounds of participating in the system. Just because I abstained doesn't remove the burden of civic responsibility from me for the next four years. Your statement is as silly as the the people saying "Well I didn't vote for him, he isn't *my* president!" (GW) for the past four years. If the president does something I disagree with it is well within my rights to complain, wheather I voted for him or not or didn't vote at all.
