No what we need is for people to go to the web, and spend 20 minutes reading over the candidates positions so they can decide who they most agree with. It isn't that gawdamn hard... hell I found out everything you ever wanted to know about open heart surgery in 3 hours a few months back. It really isn't that mofoing hard to make an informed vote in the 21st gawdamn century

Yeah but your "powerful statistic" doesn't count at all! And also looks very bad!

Vote or Die!!!!!
Have you read my post yet?

I have this feeling that this is the first election you have ever participated in, and because MTV and all these other media outlets targeted at younger crowds are making a big deal out of the vote this year, you take on that stance.

As is it, I requested an early ballot be mailed to me and I will vote that way. If I could not have done this, I would not have wasted my time to go vote for an asshat.

There are more than two people running for president. Just so you know...

LOL! Damn good one!

Peace!

I'm sorry you feel that way. I have the same feeling about certain (but not all) people who *are* voting in this (presidential) election because of the reasons they have for doing so.

Are you aware that the USA is NOT a democracy? It is a Republic and will be so long as the Electoral College exists.

DAGTA: Your previous post hit the nail on the head.

Though you're trying to make people on here whos highest political education was "american history" in highschool understand the practice in futility we call the vote.

You people have this incredible misconception that casting a vote means, casting your support for president... it doesnt... it's a national decision... you are deciding which of the two candidates you prefer to be president. And yes that almost ALWAYS means voting for the "lesser of two evils". It is impossible for a candidate to agree on all issues with a majority of the population. Because of this nearly every citzen in the country is going to disagree with the candidate on some level... this instantly turns him into an "evil". If you only vote for people who agree with you 100% or hell even 80% than you are 110% naive as to the nature of the real world.

Fine throw your ability to decide down the toilet... but I will absolutely positively tell you to STFU when you complain later.

Period

Call it whatever you want...

It is necessary to push as many people to vote as possible in order to have a truly representative republic...

There feel better?

Semantics? Do you know the difference between a Republic and Democracy according to the definitions of the words and the theory behind those two types of governments?

This is your first chance to vote, isn't it Doboji? I'm happy to see you're fired up about it and want to make a difference. That IS a good attitude to have. However, when the man you vote for becomes President and you watch as all his campaign promises turn to lies over the next four years, then I'll be curious to see how strong your idealism is in 2008.

Why do you feel it is necessary to push people away from a fundamental aspect of their voting rights? While I generally agree that it is every person's civic responsibility to vote, taking the right to abstain away from them is simply assinine.

Also, your claim to the above right is silly. I have made a concious decision to abstain which is within the bounds of participating in the system. Just because I abstained doesn't remove the burden of civic responsibility from me for the next four years. Your statement is as silly as the the people saying "Well I didn't vote for him, he isn't *my* president!" (GW) for the past four years. If the president does something I disagree with it is well within my rights to complain, wheather I voted for him or not or didn't vote at all.

You realize your complaints falls on deaf ears cause you are not even making an effort to change what you are complaining about if you do not vote!!

Deaf ears? Give me a break.

If I made 3 billion dollars a year, and didn't vote, my complaints would be heard by many more important people than someone who makes 30K a year and votes.

When you vote, you are voting someone to represent you. No one represents my political opinions except myself.

I'd assert that bitching and whining on the internet, for what little it's worth, is still worth far more to the advancement of society than getting out of the stupor of one's life for an hour and going and voting, then returning to said stupor.

:Q Sam and I just had the same thought.

Exactly... no such thing.

Having said that... yes I do absolutely understand the difference between a Republic and a democracy...

A democracy under your semantics is a government where all people have all power.... this is akin to a communist government in that neither actually exists.

A republic however falls towards the democratic category of government as it posesses a great myriad of democratic concepts. The vote being a very big one.

Ok then. Once you complain about everything under the sun then what? Watch him get elected again without truely voice your opinion?

Complaining = words
Voting = Change

Does anyone realize there are more offices than "President" on the ballot? State and local officials are also being elected. Those people probably have more power over your everyday life than the President does.

The reason politicians renege on their campaign promises is that they are well aware that incumbents are practically shoo-ins to win again just on name recognition alone. They know the vast majority of people are so self-absorbed they have no clue who did what during their term in office.

The ignorant take pride in their civic duty to vote, then end up voting for the names they are familiar with - in most casesl, the same people who screwed them terribly while serving their prior term.

There's a township near me whose school board voted for a $9 million football stadium for their high school. Of course, taxes immediately went up to pay for it right after the last school board election. People were outraged, held rallies, etc. Four years later, 5 of the 7 school board members won reelection because the people apparently didn't remember who screwed them.

I think that you and I agree on this issue more than you or I thought. I understand that you think you are making a political effect by simply not voting. I think that it is an assanine decision.. (no offense intended here). I do not believe people should guess vote... I believe people have a responsibility to know what is going on and make a decision accordingly. Anyone who doesnt both a) do a little reading b) vote... I believe are sleeping at the wheel.
