If you kill it, it will sink into the walls from whence it came, uttering in ancient Ettercapish, "Death is only the beginning..."

In the corner beside my bed
(hey ya hey ya hey ya hey ya)
Very busy spinning thread
(hey ya hey ya hey ya hey ya)
Eight legs and a little head
(hey ya hey ya hey ya hey ya)

It's even more fun when they drop down on your ear, and you go to brush away the "hair" that you feel, only to have your hand come back with an annoyed spider sitting on it.

One time I was brushing my teeth and one fell from the ceiling vent right into the sink. Scared the shit out of me. Of course, while I am not sure what kind of spider is in your OP, the ones I find in my apartment are brown recluse.

This one was on my floor the other day.

He got the Raid.

Raid?

You could have scooped him up with a cup and thrown him outside just as easily.

that is very hippie avatar of you. hippie.

Well, had it been something other than a brown recluse, I would have just let it roam. But brown recluse get the Raid, and I don't feel bad about it at all.

I'd never use Raid indoors, unless I'd intend to flush out the air present in the house. Among the variety of other indoor pollutants often present (though I don't use crap like air "fresheners" or many toxic cleaners), a stew of neuro/cyto/whatever toxins isn't something else I feel like breathing.

However, outdoors, for things like epic infestations of ants or earwigs, or large hornet nests, then I'll gladly go for chemical warfare.

I'm the same way. Bug sprays kill by definition, and just because one's too big for a lethal dose doesn't mean it's not bad for you. I don't use them outside either. For a short while I sprayed ants on the outside of the house, but one day I saw a woodpecker eating the ants, so I stopped that.
