The young kid on the Pistons?

edro

Lifer
Who is the kid on the Pistons, with the warmup suit on? With the huge earring, or bandage on his ear?

He looks like a family member or something... 😀 He looks out of place.

Darko, people were questioning why Pistons drafted him when they could've drafted Carmello but looks like it turned out alright for them. He's supposed to develop into a good player.

Ah ok... #2 overall? You'd think I would have heard of him before...LOL I guess I don't keep up on basketball much.

Naw, you haven't heard of Darko because he himself doesn't keep up on basketball much 😉.

Darko is just a joke. He's terrible...that and who pierces their own ears and gets them infected and has to wear bandages over them? I think he's only there for comic relief..

He will be nothing until 2 to 3 years out.

You gotta wait until his nads drop.

Then he will be special.

Trust Joe D.

I know he played in 4th Quarter of Game 3. Not sure about other games.

in Darko's defense, he's been a bench warmer all season. he comes in for a minute when we're either blowing a team out or getting blown out. then, there's tremendous pressure from the crowd for him to score.

he's still growing (reportedly 3/4" during the season) and he's been working out under Ben Wallace's workout regime. if you've seen how huge and agile Ben is, that's a good sign for Darko. Darko's packed on about 15-18 pounds of muscle over the course of the season. anyone who's played basketball after significant weight training knows it can take a while for you to shoot consistently. You're just not used to the added strength. During the preseason, before he started working out, his shot looked very smooth....especially for a 7' center (well, almost 7'1" now). give him time to get used of his new body and i still believe he's going to make believers out of many people.

He'll be decent, he just needs time. And I doubt Larry Brown would have played ANY rookie, including Carmelo, with the obvious exception of LeBron because of all the hype. Larry Brown doesn't and has never given young players that much playing time. It's just part of his philosophy. Phil is (was?) the same way in his coaching recently.

He's going to suck forever. Look, Dirk averaged like 30 points a game for his European team. Same with Peja. These guys were stars in Europe. Darko didn't score double digits.

Everyone said the same crap w/ Tskitishvilli and he's HORRIBLE. Even if you are raw and young you don't do some of the retarded things I've seen Darko do.

Dirk only averaged 8.2 PPG his rookie year, look at him now.

They drafted Darko on potential. Unlike Melo and LJ, the Pistons are good enough that they have the luxury of waiting for him to develop, they didn't need a rookie to come in and immediately contribute.

I agree. There is no guarantee that Darko will develop into a Peja or a Nowitzki. You take your chances and sometimes you get the stars and sometimes you get the Tskitishivilli's.

Right...but he was a star in Europe. He averaged 30 for his European team. Darko can't score 10 a game in Europe.

to Detroit's credit, they have one of the top European scouts in the NBA.

i forget his name, but he found gems like Mehmet Okur and Rebracca when no one had even heard of him. now Okur will be a sought after free agent and Rebracca will be a solid backup PF/C.

anyways, Joe Dumars has shown that he will cut his loses quickly if draft picks or players aren't what he expected (Rodney White, Mateen Cleaves, etc). i expect Dumars to do the same if Darko doesn't show the signs that the Pistons expect.

But Dirk was 2 years older than Darko when he was drafted. Give him time, hell he's only 18.
