I went nuts this year, 2 1080P's (61 & 47 inch) and a 720P 32 inch set.

I use all of them as PC monitors, and have a dual tuner HTPC with Vista/Media Center on the 61" set, watching Spiderman II from OTA recording now, it's freaking spectacular...

I live 10 miles from the antenna farm for my metro area, and put up an attic antenna a couple of years ago :D

Best part is that you get a beautiful signal for free

Death to SD TV

: drool;

Got my patch cords & splitter today so I have both tuners up & running now... :p

Well, you don't have to rub it in. :p

If you'd quit turning down my marriage proposals it could all be yours, you dark skinned siren you...

Fine. I'll marry you. But the 61 will be my primary. ;)

It's big enough we can share... :D

:D

So that's a yes?

June wedding? And do you mind if I move my mom in with us?

So ha!

I only have a 720p TV. Woot grad school

To be honest, I'm surprised they haven't made some new resolution to trump 1080p, even though 1080p is excessive on smaller sets (and pretty much perfect for a larger screen)

The majority of households own a HDTV?

Year is 2008. All prime time broadcasting and most sporting events are HD. Why not enjoy it?

How do you know that a "majority of households" own a HDTV? Where is this study, and do they only count 1080p, 720p and higher, etc?

I finally took the plunge and bought an olevia 32" 720p LCD. LOVE the OTA, looks awesome and it's Free! time to cancel craptastic  (local channels are all I care about)

still not sold on the 1080p scam until all stations broadcast in 1080p, not sure if that'll happen in '09.

yes, you can get 1080p now on bluray and HD-DVD, but out of all the hours I spend in front of the TV, 95% of the time will be TV and I only use it slightly for movies so 1080p is worthless to me. if I want the real experience, I'll go watch the movie in a theatre ;)

Have a 768p TV. So does everyone I know with an HD set. I plan on getting a nice, larger TV and moving my 42" into the bedroom eventually, but not until 50+" quality TV's drop below 2K.

Aren't all OTA-HD and Cable/Satellite HD broadcast in 1080i only, with little to no hope of jumping to 1080p due to bandwidth limitations? 1080p's mainly for HD-DVD and Bluray, right?

I paid ~$1800 for my 61" LED DLP Samsung.

Yeah, I'm sure HD isn't that drastic of an upgrade over PAL anyway..

Yep... I gotta be honest, I can't tell much difference between 1080i & 1080p though...

I paid ~$1600 for my Toshiba 50" DLP (720p) about 1.5 years ago :brokenheart:

Next year "Breaking news: Laser TV's are the leading cause of eye cancer! We take you live..." ;)

And HD is ok, but SD is what all of the channels around me still use. I have an HDTV, just no HD except for the 360 :D

There is still a big difference, it just hasn't taken off yet. There's very few channels available.

As predicted HD sets are in the majority of households. It's not surprising that 1080p displays are the majority of sets offered.

Let us hail HDTV and let us enjoy it for all it's beauty in full 1080 glory!

I know 3 people that have HDTV sets. And I know a lot of people that have multiple TVs in their houses.

Projection has the sharpest image I think but worst viewing angles (obviously).

I think the main thing that gets me is computer usage. Back when I bought my 42" lcd for 1k (little over a year ago), 1080p was a huge jump in price.

I've watched 1080p, 1080i and 720p, and tell no difference. I'm picky and notice stuff, but I'm also smart enough to not care. I saw nothing to quarrel over in the difference in pictures.

I think I'm an LCD guy in the end. Plasma is warned against for computer usage, DLP has viewing angle issues, and LCD has probably the worst artifacts. But I'm used to it from using a computer.

My roomie just got one...a 46" Samsung 1080P.

I guess Sony was right when it pushed 1080P with the PS3.

As for me - 13" Apex FTW and I don't see myself leaving ANYTIME soon.

For almost 1 year that was our only TV, we watched everything on that dinky Apex 13" ($59 from Amazon).

20 dollars from BF Circuit City 2002 ;)

I still prefer it because stuff like games from the psx and ps2, because it look SOOO much nicer than "streched" on a bigger TV.

I'm glad we agree on what quality is!

I never said it was quality. We used it because it was in our tiny "computer room" and a 27" CRT would have dominiated the room. Plus the 13" fit perfectly on our coffee table.

$20 is a damn good deal.
