I'm the same way. I dont like to throw out food, just hate being wasteful. I believe everything as long as it passes the sniff and the touch test, is safe to eat. My GF and friends all say I have an iron stomach and are appalled at the age of things I choose to eat. 2-3 month old leftovers found way back in the fridge. No problem I'll take it with me for lunch to work next day. Moldy cheese. Slice off the moldy part and go to town. I once ate bread and turned over the slice to realize it was moldy. Honestly didnt see it. Surprisingly,it tasted fine so I kept munching. I found 3 plastic bottles of fruit juice and various nectars in the basement that were years past expiration. They tasted fine. Found some chicken breasts that I had been meaning to grill in a tupperwear container in my fridge. They were old and full of mucous but not yet discolored. Definitely weird smelling though. So I rinsed them off and squeezed lemon juice all over them. The lemon "sanitized and deodorized" the meat and I grilled it that night. Salad dressings, condiments, old potato chips whatever and wherever. I once ate a tupperwear of almonds/cashews and other assorted nuts that had to be at least 7 years old and it was fine too. I made pancakes once and kept the leftover batter. Rediscovered it 3 months later. Mixed it again since it had separated and the water was floating on top. Who doesn't like making pancakes in the morning especially when the batter is already made? Surprise pancakes are the best kind of pancakes!
