That is absolute madness ER. Stay safe.

Do what you gotta do. I also suck my thumbs to sample everything I touch. If anything it has made me immune to almost every disease. I have literally not been sick once in 20+ years no matter what/who I've been exposed to. I never get shots or see doctors. Even going to another crowded country like Japan, I never got sick...my friend was very ill the first ~2 weeks.

This is one of the craziest things I have read on here! And I believe it because you've said some other crazy shit like this before. haha!

EliteRetard, Are you in the USA? You can haz food stamps? They exist for people who lack the necessary funding to purchase edible food stuffs at the store... Perhaps it may be something that would benefit you? Don't be "too proud" if you're in need.

I'm the same way. I dont like to throw out food, just hate being wasteful. I believe everything as long as it passes the sniff and the touch test, is safe to eat. My GF and friends all say I have an iron stomach and are appalled at the age of things I choose to eat. 2-3 month old leftovers found way back in the fridge. No problem I'll take it with me for lunch to work next day. Moldy cheese. Slice off the moldy part and go to town. I once ate bread and turned over the slice to realize it was moldy. Honestly didnt see it. Surprisingly,it tasted fine so I kept munching. I found 3 plastic bottles of fruit juice and various nectars in the basement that were years past expiration. They tasted fine. Found some chicken breasts that I had been meaning to grill in a tupperwear container in my fridge. They were old and full of mucous but not yet discolored. Definitely weird smelling though. So I rinsed them off and squeezed lemon juice all over them. The lemon "sanitized and deodorized" the meat and I grilled it that night. Salad dressings, condiments, old potato chips whatever and wherever. I once ate a tupperwear of almonds/cashews and other assorted nuts that had to be at least 7 years old and it was fine too. I made pancakes once and kept the leftover batter. Rediscovered it 3 months later. Mixed it again since it had separated and the water was floating on top. Who doesn't like making pancakes in the morning especially when the batter is already made? Surprise pancakes are the best kind of pancakes!

You're.. you're.. kidding right?

one time i made curried tofu. i overcooked it and the potatos turned to mush, it ruined the entire dish. i hate to waste food tho, so i forced myself to eat it over the next week

After recovering from laughing at ER's pics, I admit I made a salami and chocolate sandwich as a kid, with chocolate sauce as a condiment. It taught me that some great flavors go together, but not all.

Finally... and people thought I was crazy when I said I subscribe to the philosophy of "What doesn't kill you..."

I was absolutely dirt poor.

Only edibles in the house were a box of expire no-name instant mashed potatoes, and a half of a bottle of mustard. No milk or butter for the potatoes.

Thought 'French fries are potatoes, and I love mustard on them', so whipped up instant mashed using only water, put some mustard on it, and almost gagged when I tried them. Like mulched paper with mustard.

Last time I checked I wasn't eligible. If you have any income, health insurance, are a student, live inside a building, get disability, or even if they just don't like you, you are not allowed. Otherwise you'll get something like $40/month. Only if you are a single mom popping out kids like crazy will you get the max benefits of ~100$.

The system is just stupid messed up. If I wasn't forced to pay $120/month for obamacare that would be nice. Though admittedly I probably wouldn't spend it on food (didn't before).

I don't understand how one in America cannot afford food but can afford internet to post on ATOT.

You know how much free internet is out there? I'm using a wifi network here with a really old .11g belkin USB adapter. My computer/s was/were gifted as well. I also have renters insurance, I get like $100k in coverage for like $10/month. If anything breaks or fails I'm covered (I pay extra for accidental).

And why spend thousands a month buying food when you can get older stuff free?

I didn't realize it was that fvcked up... with all the people who bitch about people scamming the system, I would have thought that pretty much anybody who couldn't afford to buy food would be eligible for at least SOME assistance...

In any case, I hope you are able to improve your financial situation.

I suggest you check again. The maximum gross income you can have is like $1,245 and you get $189 a month in assistance.

I tried to do egg fried rice once, and got it fairly badly wrong.

For the record, I think that guessing how to do it and trying to fry raw egg with rice is the wrong way. Perhaps following a recipe next time would help.

1) Good food is more expensive

2) internet is paid monthly via credit card or auto-deduction, and you have 2-3 months of nonpayment before it gets turned off. The status of your refrigerator, on the other hand, usually reflects the last week or two of financial well-being. So somebody who's scraping by paycheck to paycheck may have a hungry week in the middle of a month, but their ISP doesn't notice.

I've made some things that were bland, or strange combinations I've tried. Probably the weirdest was bean sprouts and peanut butter in a tortilla. But I thought it was pretty tasty anyway.

I burned some fish once, stunk up the house.

Nowadays I generally follow recipes, or smother everything in ginger, olive oil, or garlic.

Nowadays I generally follow recipes...
When I first started cooking I followed recipes religiously. Guess it was the star pupil chemistry student in me. It took me a long time but I eventually came to realize that I was wasting too much time doing that. I can still follow a recipe if I am trying something that I don't know much about. I rarely bother anymore. Elaborate cooking takes a lot of time.

My mom keeps old food and desperately tries to salvage things I'm trying to throw away. She uses the same excuse about her immune system, but she simply ignores all the times she has been sick or doesn't remember.
