In 2018 I was arrested for threatening to shoot up the police station that refused to arrest my abusive parents. I was in LA county jail for 5 months before being transferred to a house arrest program.
In LA jail they NEVER turn off the lights even at sleep time, I think its because they want to know what you're doing in your cell.
They don't give you a pillow.
The mattresses is very thin and on top of a metal bottom and is very uncomfortable.
There is no sun light ANYWHERE!
The air vents are EXTREMELY loud!
At first I was in General Population where you can walk around and watch TV and take a shower whenever you want, but the medical staff noticed I had scars on my shoulder from biting it out of anger and put me in Suicide Prevention which is WAAAAY worst then General Population!
In Suicide Prevention they only let you out of your cell a couple hours a day and they don't let you out at all on the weekends. When you can come out you have to be chained up to the tables and you only shower Mondays/Wednesday/Fridays.
When your in the cells you cant see or hear the TV but at least once a week they escort you to the library and you can pick out some books to read.
The food there wasn't terrible but it was repetitive, usually peanut-butter and jelly for breakfast and baloney sandwich for lunch and dinner would be different things like burritos or rice and beans and such.
I never got into a fight while in jail but I have seen other guys fighting.
Now I'm in a house arrest program called Victory Starts Now, you can watch a video about it below. Its a pretty good program but your not allowed to drink alcohol or use Marijuana even though its legal, all we can do is smoke cigarettes.
Whats funny is when I first came to this program I was starving for both darkness and sunlight AT THE SAME TIME! And I was sleeping for like 13 hours a day for almost a month to make up for all the insomnia in jail.
I'll be out of this program in a little over a year.
