Only play spy cards in the first round. Get as many cards in your deck as you can and keep the enemy placing as many cards as possible. You will win every time.

There are plenty of strategic ways to play spies. If you can force a win in the first round without burning too many cards, play your spies in the second round then pass. You force your opponent to waste several of his cards, while you actually gain cards. Or, hang onto Thaler or the Mysterious Elf and toss them out at the end of the last round. Great way to infuriate opponents who think they've won (well, if they were human, at least).

Is there anything I can do to make Roach spawn closer to Geralt? I swear, every time I summon him he's either behind a rock, stuck in trees, behind a fence/hut, etc. If there's anything nearby he could possibly spawn behind... that's exactly where the game spawns him.

It's annoying as heck.

I know what you mean. Dumb horse. Not really much you can do, other than calling for him in a slightly more open area.

Finally started pushing the main story line along so it would at least get caught up close to my level (currently 25). Have to say there is still a ton of content left but I find it hard to jump back in to chasing ? on the map now. Why? I know it's ridiculous but the story keeps pressing about how time is short, hurry, etc. and it feels a bit out of sync with this supposed urgency to run off and clear a bandit camp for junk loot. I may just finish the story and then go take care of missions.

I think the other part is I just enjoy the story and don't want to break up the continuity of it.

Is there anything I can do to make Roach spawn closer to Geralt?
I think Roach most often spawns behind Geralt. It would be weird to see him spawn out of nowhere right in front of your nose. So the game spawns him behind you, out of sightl. Not 100% this is always the case, but it seems like it.

You can use this to your advantage.
Leaving a little village ? You look out into the fields, you call Roach. And he spawns behind you. Somewhere between 2 huts, or behind a fence, or stuck in bushes. Sucks.

The solution ? Turn around and look back at the village. Then summon Roach. He will spawn behind you, in the open fields. With a lot less crap in the fields he can get stuck behind. You turn around, and can run forward to Roach, who is running towards you. Problem solved.

The thing that used to irritate me was: running out a village, realizing using my horse would be quicker, call Roach, and he spawns *behind* me. I have to run back to get him, losing time. So I always turn around quickly in the wrong direction before calling him, immediately turn back, and keep running in the right direction while jumping on Roach's back.

This was not so hard to come up with, is it ? 🙂

Haha I know right? I'm supposed to be in a mad rush to find Ciri, but all I want to do is play Gwent, scavenge hunt, and Igni-fy Skelligan goats.

I don't get why they didn't have Roach default to spawning on the road, of course if you are in a forested area it would be a different spawn. Currently it seems like Roach spawns in a random place out of sight within a circular radius around the player.

In TESV you could spawn a horse with a spell at a spot, they should have done that and maybe have some lore or side quest behind that idea.

I so rarely use roach I haven't noticed. I run everywhere or fast travel to towns.

PS. Finally got around to playing this again. The new movement control scheme is SOOO much better.

Did anyone manage to get an artifact free GPU overclock on this game?

I've had GPU overclocks survive furmark for 30 minutes without issues just to start up witcher 3 and get blocky artifacts after 5-10 minutes. Its only this game that does that. I can use the same OC in DAI and never get any artifacts. I also tried Metro LL, Shadows of Mordor and GTAV and no artifacts in any of those games. Is there some particular setting in Witcher 3 that is causing the artifacts? Is there anything I can do to mitigate these? I got an 1170/1750 OC on my R9 390 that has no artifacts in anything else but Witcher 3, and I tried backing the core clock and memory down to 1150/1700, and still get artifacts. I don't get it unless it has something to do with this game specifically. I'll normally run 1170/1750 with +43 core and +48 memory, and that survived 30 minutes of furmark with x8 MSAA with no issues. I gotta bump up the voltage to +88 to get 1200 core stable, and that's a lot more heat. Got an 1125/1625 OC that is otherwise stable on stock voltages, except for Witcher 3. Basically, any overclock I've tried gives me artifacts in this game. I'm pissed. CDPR is trolling me.

This game runs like total ass on the PS4. My brother got the PS4 version, and I was surprised how bad the game ran. He was slogging through novigrad, and it looked like the FPS dropped into the teens in many spots, and quite a few spots the game would pause for a few secs and load before you could continue, which never happened on my PC. My sig rig minus the 390 and + 6970 - a GPU from 2010-2011 ran this game vastly superior performance to the PS4, and better looking too. A 6970 is somewhere between a 7850 and 7870 performance wise which is where the PS4's GPU is supposed to be as well.

I'm OC'ing my 290x, not seeing artifacts. 1152/1410 w/o much testing - I had to bump the voltage up +70 as I was getting random crashes in W3, I'm edging it back down, but so far it's been stable w/ no artifacts.

The last update caused that. Before it was not that bad.

I run my 970s at 1480/8000 and no artifacts or crashes.

It appears to have something to do with high sharpness setting. I lowered that and I haven't seen any more artifacts. I've heard about others getting strange artifacts with high sharpness, so it was probably attributed to that and not my OC. Witcher 3 hasn't crashed on me yet.

Seems like it'll run 1135/1650 on stock voltage. So far no issues after 20 minutes. Difference in game between 1135 core and 1200 is 1-2FPS tops. Difference between 1040 and 1135 is 5-6fps. 1200 core isn't worth the extra heat.

That sucks. In WoW mounts will spawn within a split second, right under you. I never liked that. I think it is awesome how Roach spawns in TW3.

Now is it convenient ? Nope.
But Roach is a horse. And not a motor-cycle.

In reality, horses are the biggest dicks in the animal kingdom. Cocky, stubborn, vain, dumb as fck. Only interested in food. Unreliable, unpredictable, dangerous. You can't drop your guard for even a second around a horse, or it might kick you in the head and kill you.

So yeah, the fact that Roach is irritating as hell makes him a very life-like horse.

Also, is there a way to have my #2 sword my default? During fights Geralt automatically draws the #1 Sword, even if my #2 sword has higher ratings.

I press the 2 Key to switch during battle, but after a few swings he re-draws the #1 sword no matter what. The only way I have him draw the #2 sword is to completely unequip my #1 sword.

Hope I'm making sense. 🙂

Sword 1 is for "natural" enemies, humans, wolves, wild dogs etc etc. Sword 2 is for monsters. Sword 2 isn't effective vs sword 1 targets and vice versa.

To avoid similar issues and have a better experience with the game, spend some time studying the bestiary, maybe look into some of the tutorials.

1 (Steel) and 2 (Silver) work differently against different things (as stated in the post above me). The game draws the sword that is needed for the fight. You can change it during the fight if you want, but you lose any bonuses related to the type of enemy you are fighting. (not sure why it is changing back on you).

My GTX 970 boosts around 1470-1500 with no issues.
I am using OC Guru instead of AB and using offset voltage.

Well to be fair the horse you could spawn in TESV was from another realm, it wasn't a regular horse, but functionally it was.

I too find Roach amusing, he has a mind of his own which can be realistic haha. I'm waiting for the moment they patch in horse romance and you see him run off to do his thing.

The only reason Geralt would change swords is because you had the wrong one drawn, afaik.

Easy to know what sword for mobs, red mobs(red health bar) use normal steel sword, silver mobs use silver sword,Geralt will equip the right sword automatically when close enough to the mobs.

IMO, a reasonable middle-ground gameplay mechanic for Roach would be to have the whistle button cause Roach to run in and Geralt automatically mount him. I agree that hunting for the dumb horse behind whatever random foliage he managed to trap himself behind is annoying.

Geralt will always switch to the correct sword for the enemy you're fighting. It can become annoying if, for example, a pack of wild dogs gets mixed up with drowners or nekkers.

I've had times where he doesn't draw a sword and I end up going in with fists until I can roll out of danger and pull the sword manually.
