The lower pic is from the most recent build, and the difference is more than just the time of day..

In the lower pic, it looks like terrain tessellation is fully enabled, plus the vegetation quality is a bit better.

I only like games which will lead you to your next story mission without getting lost somewhere...

probably. I couldn't get into Witcher 1 or 2, despite multiple attempts...but I still buy this one most likely. 😀

At 3m:03s, you can hear the Lord of Casterly Rock, Shield of Lannisport and Warden of the West aka Charles Dance voice acting. Sooooo good.

People tried putting DA:I (which I played through) on a pedestal and claim it's at same level as Witcher 3. Not long until they are proven wrong...

DAI could never have been on the same level as the Witcher 3, as it was hampered by last gen consoles.. And I'm not just talking about graphics, but gameplay as well.

Last gen support cost DA:I in a big way. Remember all those awesome previews showing things like environmental destruction (that affected gameplay) which the Frostbite 3 engine is known for? It got axed, along with a bunch of other cool stuff..

Luckily CDPR had the balls to drop last gen support completely for the Witcher 3. Could you imagine if the Witcher 3 supported PS3 and Xbox 360? The game would be completely different from how it is now. The complexity, scale and density would have to be ratcheted back big time to accommodate those memory deficient platforms..

I don't dispute that, my point is that it doesn't measure up to Witcher 3 and it wouldn't measure up even if it weren't "restrained" by old gen limitations.
The lore, the amount of content, level of detail, quests, all are a notch above DA:I.

Witcher 3 is Game of Thrones level RPG.

Even so, there is zero mention of No 1 + No 2 - where are the save imports? That trailer is built for new gamers which is a bad idea as they have no idea of the Wild Hunt (which was in 1) or Nilffgard (which was a major plot point of 2, end of 2 basically leads to 3).

Save imports between 1 and 2 were piffling anyway . . . . . also that first screenshot looks horrible texture wise (look at the cliff).

I agree. The Witcher series benefits from having a pre-made world created by a professional successful writer, unlike Dragon Age whose world was created by Bioware themselves as a background for their games.

As such, the world of Dragon Age is pretty good with great potential, but Bioware squanders it by being absurdly politically correct at every given opportunity which makes it seem more contrived and unrealistic.

People hunger for the Witcher series, much like they hunger for the Game of Thrones as both series portray dark fantasy with a very "realistic" foundation as far as human behavior is concerned.

The claims of downgrading are getting a bit old at this point and CDPR has consistently confounded such claims. The igni sign has multiple levels of intensity, so it could be that the igni sign in the Pax gameplay wasn't fully upgraded, or it could also be that it was running at a lower setting.

At any rate, it's just particle effects. There's no real reason for CDPR to axe more particles on the PC version.
 
Nicely put, Carfax. Inquisition wasn't a terrible game but it felt semi open, a western D&D that had tight deadlines, less scale & scope and outside of gender/sexual orientation, it was squeaky clean. More could be said about the differences but it's just beating a dead horse at this point.

Some 2 months ago, Witcher 3 came under series of attacks and lots of gaming news were negative. Some got me concerned so I was waiting to see if things were as bad as they were made out to be. Glad to see it all proven wrong. This trailer got me back on track and hyped just as I was before the delays and all the commotion.
 
Lol! I watched it at work and didn't hear what he asked the first time. I hope there's other random bits of humor thrown in.
 
The trailer made it look cool, but it will come down to gameplay whether or not I can get into it.

The recommended specs are fairly high - any idea so far how a 970 will handle it? I don't expect full Ultra

if you played Witcher 1 and/or Witcher 2, then expect more of the same

if you haven't played Witcher 1 or 2, then play Witcher 2 and whatever impression you get from that will probably apply to Witcher 3

Reportedly, a single 980 can generate 60 FPS in the Witcher 3 at 1080p ultra quality. Likely that's with MSAA not turned on though. And a 980 is usually about 10-15 FPS ahead of a 970 in non bandwidth bound circumstances, so I would say you shouldn't have any issues if you're playing at 1080p and not expecting 60 FPS.

If you're playing at 1440p or higher though, thats a different kettle of fish. I would recommend SLI for 1440p or higher.. The biggest strength of the GTX 970 is it's ability to easily overclock. Most aftermarket cards can easily hit 1500mhz and 8ghz, coming very close to the performance of a stock 980.

A 270x is the minimum spec card listed, so I'm not so sure. Might give you a PS4 quality experience, but AMD's DX11 drivers are so iffy that I wouldn't bet on it.
 
I'm currently playing The Wicther 2 for the first time right now and not enjoying the combat at all.

I'm sorry but its utter trash, I would rather have the first games combat system then some pseudo Arkham style which isn't nearly as good.

Geralt cant take a few hits, you need to constantly roll and run away only hitting when you have a chance, combat ends up like this,

1. Make hit
2. Roll away
4. Use shield
5. Make another hit(Shield buff gone), roll away
6. Run around in a few circles waiting for Mana(endurance) to regenerate and cast shield buff again.
7. Repeat steps 1-6

Maybe its early in the game(only halfway through chapter 1) but I'm used to quality combat that is Dark Souls combat or the Arkham free flowing style. I should note that most of these issue come into play when your fight more than 3 enemies at once(which is quite often so far), or stun lock issue where you cant escape after getting hit, or hitting a shield. Fighting creatures is so far much more enjoyable, until they start putting human features into them like the Nekkers, Drowners etc.

I hope the entire combat system gets a revamp for #3.

To avoid rolling in Witcher 2, use Aard sign to push back or stun enemies. When you level up, you will be able to use the counter attack skill which parries incoming blows. Also, Yrden is invaluable for taking on stronger enemies..

There's also bombs if you want to invest more into the alchemy tree.
 
Artorias' experience mirrors my own with TW2. Combat was the weakest part, I found leveling signs made the game easier than swordsman. The problem I always felt was half the combat team wanted the game to be like the Arkham games and the other half like the Souls game so they tried to merge them. Problem was they didn't give you the tools that made both those combat systems work (the block/counter system or the shield/strafing respectively).

That said Artorias there is a combat rebalance mod you might want to check out. I haven't played but it was done by a dev and a lot people seem to like it.

As for TW3 theres so far been a lot of positive feedback from the games media of combat changes. You've got roll for when you need a lot of space, a step dodge for a quick dodge to an attack that you can then follow up, the new parry/ripotse, and then your signs and bombs. Pretty much all the previews have said its much more responsive than the second game. Here's hoping they are right.
 
While the overall effects look nicer the textures look like they got downgraded to me.

That first picture looks abysmal. But if you look at the trees, really everything, you can notice it looks really smeared and ugly. They probably had nvidia's TXAA turned on which always ruins image quality like that.

The second picture looks incredible, but very likely a downsampled marketing shot that has darker lighting as well.
