Exactly. I get tired of all the DX 11 has nothing more than DX 9 crap. That is certainly not true and there are major performance benefits.

Not automatically, though. The Witcher 2 looked better and ran better than Dragon Age 2, and Dragon Age 2 used DirectX 11.

Never tried it and I doubt I care that much about EA games or what they look like. Well I would have to install it again but despite the meh gameplay and story Arcania actually had nice graphics and sound and that was only DX 10. Thing is that the textures on the Witcher 2 are high quality but you have to make everything work together so it is more than just textures since there is also lighting and other graphical crap.

While it is true, DX11 could give better performance, that still doesn't take away from the quality they did deliver. Just because it was DX9, doesn't mean the graphics were not special.

They were amazing for DX 9 but they probably had to push most of what was possible.

No game in history did everything that was possible, or even close to it. I'm sure it could be better, as no game could say it was as good as it could be. That still doesn't mean it wasn't very good.

It's not the tools that make a product good. It is the execution of that product. To say it wasn't anything special, because it used DX9 is very close minded.

There'll of course always be differences between different games made by different studios. Just Cause 2 was a DX10.1 game released in 2010 and it was cheered for its visuals.
Battlefield 3 was released the same year as TW2 and used DX11.

I'm not saying I personally didn't find TW2 good looking, I just don't see why it's sometimes used as an example for the true superiority of the potential of PC gaming.
Crysis 2 was DX9 only initially and was greatly criticized by PC gamers because of it.

I don't expect maxed out settings and ubersampling to be playable on anything but the top 4 GPU's right now. W2 was the same, still is. @1440p, ubersampling cuts my fps from 70 down to 30 avg.

They recommend a GTX 770 or Radeon R9 290. So yeah, pretty much this. The Witcher series was always pretty demanding graphically. I still get good performance on high from my dual 6850s but they're getting to the end of their useful lives.

When I looked up the minimum system requirements for Witcher 3 again... 😀

Will probably be a PS4 buy for me if I get it. Never did get into the last game though.

Finally preordered it, $47.50 for a big new release is pretty good. Shall see how well my PC handles it, no money to upgrade video card for awhile though. Ñow, long as no more delays, time to plan to be home for 2 days 🙂

I am so glad I outgrew this sort of analyzing and just play games to enjoy them. The graphics are probably the least of my concerns for this game.

I don't have any gaming rig(s) right now, but I really want to play this game so I'll probably spend the $325 on a used PS4 solely to play it, rather than $400 on just a video card (used one too) that can play it, plus the cost of the other system components.

I'd be completely surprised and disappointed if it didn't considering Witcher 1 carried (mostly) over onto 2.

Just because they only used DX9, does not mean they didn't use very advanced techniques for a very good looking game. Newer versions of DX, just give more tools for the dev to use, but that doesn't mean it is higher quality. TW2 had great lighting, textures and overall appearance. The only major loss, by using DX9, was tessellation.

Thats very debateable if you ask me. DX11 when used properly can result in some significant IQ increases over DX9, simply due to the performance increase which makes using higher fidelity options possible without incurring an unreasonable performance hit.

Take TW2 for instance. Yeah it looked really good, but the shadows were terrible. With DX11, soft shadows are a standard.. Also the lighting was great for DX9, but compared to DX11 titles it looks oversaturated and unnatural with HDR on, and with it off it looks flat.

The Witcher 3 in comparison will use high dynamic range rendering with 64 bit precision, allowing a more natural look and feel for the lighting.

Yes. Weapons carried over. Although you could get better weapons starting in Act 2, but the early game was made easier with the weapons brought from the first game. (The weapons and armor that were brought over were the ones you have to build or find specially in the Witcher 1)

Game information will carry over from the Witcher 3 from the Witcher 2 in basically what decisions you made with a save game importation. Gear will not carry over. If you don't have a save there will be portion of the game where you can tell the game what you did and it will remember it so if you want to play on console or didn't keep your save around you'll be covered.

That said I wouldn't expect too much of a dramatic difference in your choices from previous games. CDPR never really emphasizes prior game decisions that much, like BioWare tried to do with Mass Effect. They usually keep the big decisions contained in each game.

Frankly if I can get the game to look close to that I'm going to be happy. Let other people argue about rock or grass texture quality. I'm much more concerned with story, combat, sidequests and the like.
