Inventory interface is a little wonky, with a controller you can instantly drop any item in your inventory with the Y button. Combat will get better when you level, Quen is key, parrying becomes useless. At higher levels you can play on normal even hard.

I think you need 7 points the other trees will open up, after that I was leveling up really fast. Blatant nudity and sex scenes are a little forced, I'm all up for adult content but don't hit me upside the head with it. On the other hand it's no worse than Hollywood.

I agree the auto save is bad, and more than once I lost a lot of progress, not as bad as Dragon Knight Saga though. F5 often.

Guess I'm missing something.. I'm in act 2 and other than the opening scene with Triss and the other scene with her later on I'm not seeing much here..

I was hoping for a bit more.. Spartacus style.. over the top sex and violence across the board.

Love this game but there's a couple of poor design choices that prevent it from getting a 10 or even a 9.5

- Not being able to take a potion when you want. The idea is ok but it's so badly implemented it becomes annoying. Half of the time you don't even know combat is coming up so have zero time to prepare.

- QTE's....I hate them. THey're a console abomination and need to be rid of. That fight against the Karyan is a perfect example. Possible minor spoilers upcoming. After taking like ten freaking attempts to maim the bastard I finally lob off the third tentacle only to be hit with some QTE. Not just one, but three of them. Then after that he's STILL not dead and you need to figure out where to go while he's hurling rocks at you. Argh. Oh, and if you fail it's right back to the start of the battle like in the old arcade games. That was not fun to me. This is a role playing game, not a twitch fest.

- Mutagens - the game and manual are poor in explaining what they are used for.

- Inventory - Need a way to drop multiple items at once

OVerall though the game is great. Just needs a few tweaks to improve it.

I agree with all of the above. I'll also add a few, though.

With the mutagens, I think you should be able to replace already slotted powers with superior, or just different mutagens, if you feel like going a different direction. Maybe be able to either make a potion, or visit a crafter/alchemist to clear them. Shame to keep them unslotted because you're not lucky with drops, and makes all the lesser mutagens vendor junk.

Books/recipes. It's just a mess. Should be sorted in alphabetic/type order, not by the order in which you find 'em.

Should also be a journal entry, and if you should see the book/recipe on a vendor, it should let you know if you already knew it (like in the first game. Tagged it with an "Already read" if you had done so)

Longer duration on oils, and potions. Gets annoying to look at Geralt going into his meditation state after awhile, and the clumsy interface doesn't make it anymore fun. The less clicks, the better.

Curious why there isn't tons of hate on here for the graphics since its dx9. Crysis haters wouldn't shut the hell up b/c the game wasn't dx11. My position, the only rational one (ha!) is who gives a crap what engine is being used if it looks as good as it does?

Thats part of the game design. Witcher's drink potions BEFORE battle, and not during.....which I suppose is due to the highly toxic nature of the potions.

Preparation is of extreme importance if you're a Witcher after all, so I don't mind it personally...

If you're going into a dangerous area, better down some potions before hand.

Agreed. I always have a problem with being able to insta-drink potions in RPGs, but it's even more important as a character point in TW.

Well, I don't agree. Bugs aside, everything is part of the game design. That doesn't mean there isn't room for improvement, nor that things often get tweaked, or re-designed.

Witchers didn't drink potions before combat in the first game, which was based on the same novels. Besides, you should never sacrifice gameplay for the sake of realism.

The toxicity system worked well in the first game. You could drink a few potions during combat, then you had to get rid of the toxic effects. Was a potion which could clear it, but it was sort of expensive.

Going into a dangerous area? You don't know, until the danger appears, and it often happens after a cut scene, or after you zone into a building.

Another factor is potions don't last as long as in Witcher 1 ,I also prefer the CAT potion in Witcher 1 to W2,does a better job in the dark IMHO.

End of the day its common for the game developers to change things ,we have seen it done in ME to ME2 and DAO to DA2 etc..the lists goes on.

Btw looks like patch 1.1 is out tomorrow going by their website.

I'm not sure how they could have relased the game with the launcher the way it is. It doesn't connect initially and you have to wait a minute. Once you do get connected and attempt to download any additional content, you'll automatically get disconnected.

Agree with the above also,i detest qte's.And mutagens need to be replaceable, after farming greater crit ones(didnt take long to get lots) i put in a concentration one in by mistake:S,was half asleep.

I dont mind the QTEs at all love it in fighting in the bar.

the others are super easy if you are a WASD player.

keeps it fun.

Still have NO idea what so ever even after reading the manual and the game guide what do do with the Mutigens.. I got so many and some really good ones..
and cant figure out what they are talking about.
where do these go?

some of your skills in the skill trees have little circles on them, these can be upgraded with mutagens

Mutagens are used on the character screen. Certain abilities will have empty circles on their icon, and if you highlight them, one of the options is to apply a mutagen to that ability.

The mutagen affect on the character level, and are permanent once used. Do NOT use anything less then greater mutagens - mutagens are actually quite common, mutagen slots are not.

Um ok we talking on the skill tree itself?

I don't have the skills that have one yet.

I learned the hard way about mutagens and accidentally placed one in a slot and now can't remove it. I'd love it if the patch would change that, but oh well.

Has anyone finished the chapter 1 Quest Miletele's Heart? I'm wondering if it's bugged.

The ritual seems to go on forever, with respawning wraiths. All my potions wore after after a constant battle, and it still wasn't over.

haha watch AMD fix their Crossfire before Nvidia fixes SLI in a game with the Nvidia logo "The Way it's meant to be played" (just not SLI or 3D (oh yah, it's 3D Vision "Ready" too, but doesn't work right yet (maybe we should drop the "Ready"(sorry we suck lately))))

/agree on the mutagen crap - we should be allowed to "overwrite" more powerful mutagens [even if it was limited to the same type - ie: +1 armor lesser, +3 armor, +5 armor, etc]

BTW - anyone else get a random view lockup [using WASD/mouse] during combat? Can't attack, sometimes can walk/run while other times can't move at all. Seems to happen when I run out of a bomb that's active even though the shortcut icon displays the bomb.

And what's with the locked floor doors and chests without keys!! :(

They did the same thing with the doors in TW1. Almost all the doors in the game showed up as useable, they were just locked.

Most of the locked chests I've seen so far (end of Ch1) have a key, you just might not find it unless you talk to the right person, do a certain quest, etc.
