Anyone having any issues with polling?

I was playing with tasker and it told me my GE's in my overhead was on when I knew it was off at the switch. I checked wink app and sure enough they are showing on rather than the ? like before.

It was working fine just recently..
 
At least as far as I can tell, the grayed out icons with question marks only lasted a few days...and I had a bunch of them. Now, wink seems to be unable to tell whether a light is on. You can unscrew the bulb and put it back in the box and the app will still show it as on. I didn't like the fact that on the day of the upgrade to .77 that I had 25 of the icons with question marks but I do think it is appropriate to indicate when communication with a device is lost. Now I can be away thinking I have turned off all the lights....because the app shows them off....only to come home and find several are still on.

Fletch, My polling does work, but I've noticed that it seems really slow on the server side.

The App seems to be OK when used, but that is probably because they have it written so the app instantly shows the new state you selected instead of relying on the servers to tell it something changed.

When I change something by pressing it locally, using Tasker, or using the new web interface I wrote (am writing?), the delay before the server updates the state seems to be about 10 seconds.
 
Anyone ever have problems with their Schlage lock? I'm not clear if it's because of the update but my keypad seems to have stopped functioning and despite fresh batteries I can seem to get it to lock more than a few times before it ceases to function at all.....

Nope, mine has been super awesome (by itself). Only issue I have is Wink lag...sometimes it takes minutes to get the signal, especially when I'm on 3G & it has to relay. I haven't used Wink to control it in months tho, I just use the keypad all the time now 😛

Mine has been rock solid
 
One of my Trippers no longer has an activity log. The app claims the Tripper is still connected and it shows it was contacted like 30 minutes ago. Guess I'll need to pull the battery and reset it or something.

Mine was doing this the other day. And then the sensors page just went completely blank in app. But the trippers still worked and the Robots they called did their duty.
 
Thank you trunzoc! This will help me with my SimpliSafe integration project.
Just finished a small project that integrates SimpliSafe with my video surveillance system (Blue Iris) and my next step would be to extend it and automate thermostats and lights based on SimpliSafe's system state (home, away, off). Your code will surely save me a lot of research time around the Wink API. Thank you!

Hey,
I have not seen any discussion on integrating Simplisafe into my overall home automation system. I have a Simplisafe and a Wink system...does Simplisafe have an API or another way of integrating?

Thanks! It's basic now, just really on/off devices. I'll be adding in more extensive devices as I go.

I'm concerned the .NET will turn most people off since you actually need a webserver to run it instead of something that is pure javascript and html.

I did have an issue getting it to work on my server (a VM running Windows 2008 R2 with IIS 7.0) and to be honest I'm not quite sure how I resolved it -- I was getting an error about unable to call WinkHome.global or something similar and I fooled around with it in Visual Studio and it started working. Not quite sure what I did though. 😀

I ended up buying a Minimote. It can pair to the hub, but that's about as far as it goes.

That's the reason I haven't checked it out yet... :\
 
So I think I am going to go ahead and order another set of Trippers and perhaps use plasti-dip to attempt to weather proof one for my outdoor gate. Thoughts? I read where another guy was doing it on another forum (that's where I got the idea) but he never updated the thread to tell us how it went. Also considering putting one in a small project box to weatherproof it. That might be wiser.

I'd put it in a small box unless there's some other limitation. The magnet side could just stick by the edge of the box when closed.

You could parallel the internal reed relay switch with typical magnetic switches if necessary. (Someone above asked about a pushbutton for doorbell . . . another tripper use with a parallel switch).

This week I put one in my mailbox (plastic) at the road. Works great - currently just turning on a light when the mail arrives.

About 75' from the house + hub is 12' on inside wall.

This issue is definitely not with your software, it's wink for sure. When they first got polling working, if you had a GE bulb that was turned off by a physical switch, it would show that it had lost connection with a ? mark. Now it just shows that it is still on, like it did before polling was working. This was in the app as well , not just in your code so I know it's on wink's end.

But I only have a few ge's so no biggie.

Next time you are doing sample code, how about something that poll a non light device and can output it's statis like temp is 74, door is open?

Hmm, that's an interesting thought. It should be thin enough to still work, too, and the material should transfer the signal just fine. At worst, you're out $20 (if you only dip a single pair). I've dipped other stuff with good results, don't see why it wouldn't work!
