I hate this band precisely because of that song. Absolutely terrible and not worthy of any radio play whatsoever.

This x1000. The amount of radio play time that song got was insane. Obligatory, "but... it's raw, man"

I didn't mind some of their other songs but after hearing that one a hundred times a week it became an automatic radio station turner.

sure it is. see we're arguing right now.

saw a music video of iggy thump today on the news while they were discussing the breakup. i'm reminded of how fucking terrible her drumming is.

i think a josh freese/jack white collab would be awesome.

hell dave grohl/jack white would be siiiiiiiiiiick.

But why? What would they do differently? I'm genuinely curious what you think would change.

Their music doesn't need nor would it benefit from super advanced drumming, sure it might be impressive but it's not going to improve anything. Their style was very back to basics, broken down rock.

By all accounts Jack is an accomplished guitarist, but it's not something that you'd notice from much of their work. They both played what they needed to play to sound like they (rather, probably Jack) wanted [them] to sound. And to that end, it didn't require a lot of technical proficiency.

.

everything. yes i realize that it would be an entirely different band, but that's exactly my point. for me, white stripes has NO replay value cuz meg white's drumming sucks so goddamn bad.

hell if meg white simply had left the band and Freese/Grohl stepped in in her place I'm sure the drumming would no longer suck.

ITT: old people really hate new things :p

Just because people don't like the music doesn't mean they're old people hating on new things. I listened to Iggy Thump and now Seven Nation Army, and I really just don't get it. I head very little artistry in their music, the vocals and drumming are poorly done and are distracting, the songs don't flow well, and it's just unimpressive. I can appreciate art that I don't like, so long as there is artistry there that I can detect.

I mean, if you like them, that's fine. Their existence as a band didn't take anything away from me, my life, or my ability to listen to other music. Just don't say it's people hating new things because they are new.

NB, I liked Jolene. I thought, okay, I typed this out and I had misjudged them. Then I looked the song up and found out that it was a cover...
