IIRC, it has always been white elephant.

Nope.

It even says: "Not to be confused with Elephant in the room."

A white elephant is a valuable possession whose cost (particularly cost of upkeep) exceeds its supposed usefulness, and it is therefore a liability.

Also, re: your title. There is no such thing as a headquarter. There exists only headquarters.

And what makes you think he wont do it again? This guy is fucking stubborn and he may push it again to modernize our immigration laws.

He wants to "modernize" our immigration "laws" by essentially saying that old laws will no longer be enforced and that for all intents and purposes we no longer have any real immigration laws. The law would essentially be, "Come on in, folks!" Anyone who wanted to immigrate could immigrate regardless of whether or not a population explosion is good for Americans.

it's not possible to round up and deport every single illegal immigrant in the US... it's equally improbable that congress will ever pass a comprehensive amnesty bill.

It's probably impossible to round up and deport every single one, but we could probably get 99% by both rounding them up and encouraging them to self-deport.

no matter who gets elected, their choice is either going to be work out a compromise or continue ignoring the issue like we've done since Reagan.

Why isn't putting a firm end to illegal immigration a possibility? We could do it if we really wanted to. Imagine the following policy: "If you are in the country illegally, you have the right to a clean, sanitary bullet in the head, and we will execute the CEO and executives of any business caught knowingly employing illegals." I'm not advocating that, but my point is that we could rid ourselves of the illegals if we really wanted to.

Most would leave but we'd still have the anchor baby problem, which we'd need to fix by changing our citizenship laws.

Any plan to ease existing illegals into the country without first ensuring that the flow of them is brought massively to a halt is asinine, PERIOD.

We all know John McCain and barack Obama support some type of amnesty for illegals. However, even though we will expect an ideological fight if Obama was to ever think of proposing such a bill (and one he would most likely lose because it would be absolutely unacceptable to most Americans), what would happen if McCain was to propose such a bill? I think that business Republicans will rally around his plan and get Democrats on board. Conservative Republicans will be left emasculated and speechless. One reason why is because they should've seen it coming based on McCain's history. There will be nothing they can do.

But, of course, the stereotypical fears that are being thrown at Obama now will suffice to make them forget this glaring fact.

Obama wont propose a bill, democrats are fine with the status quo. Republicans are split between something like what was proposed which is come out and we will hand you a fine and put you on the fastrack to legal status. While the other half are foolishly holding onto the idea of deportating or imprisoning 12 million people.
