These are seriously jokes, right?

If not, you automatically give up your rights for having an opinion on anything. You lose. Case closed. Your opinions don't count. Completely forfeited.

They're all classics in my opinion...

Notice there's no Kevin Costner, Tom Cruise, or Tom Hanks crap.

You're going to have to remove the second entry for the list to be correct.

What does it's rating somewhere have to do with my opinion of the movie?

In the case of Amish, I can only say, "one man's trash is another man's treasure." I have no idea why he likes the movies he does, but he likes them. I guess.

People have had me sit down and try to watch some of these so-called "classics" you all seem to rave about...

The Godfather
Platoon
Saving Private Ryan
...etc.

They are just so damned dull and trite that I have to leave after seeing 10 minutes or I'll fall asleep. They completely lack any creativity.

This is unacceptable. There's no possible way in hell someone could actually want to sit down and watch Judge Dredd, let alone actually remove themselves from their house and PURCHASE the item.

Total Judge Dredd DVDs sold: 1.

You are a very strange individual, Amish, and you should be have someone keep a close eye on you.

Actually my wife and I saw it in the theater first. We both loved it so much we bought it when it came out on DVD. :D

How the hell were *any* of them trite considering they were mostly firsts?

I wouldn't call Platoon a classic but yeah...The Godfather definitely is.

It's not constant, in-your-face, blow-something-up action. Requires a bit of thought sometimes. Suppose you'd abhor something like Casablanca, North by Northwest, The Killing Fields, The Shawshank Redemption?

This is a proven fact. I read a recent interview with Stallone, and even HE didn't care for the movie! :)

You sit there and call Saving Private Ryan "trite" and "dull" and dare have TANK GIRL on your thumbs up list?

Tank Girl is creative. It took imagination. How creative and imaginitive is it to re-tell a war story? How realistic is it that they'd send a platoon out to find the a mother's "one last son" to save him? How sappy is that?

How the hell were *any* of them trite considering they were mostly firsts?

Maybe they are retroactively because all the newer stuff of the same genre (mob or war) copied them?

The only one I've seen is Shawshank. That was a good show, especially for having Tim Robbins in it. I almost put him in my "Never Watch" category after sitting through The Player.

You like Major League II and Major League: Back to the Minors, but you don't like the original Major League!?

Need I remind you of what Tank Girl is about:

"Plot Outline: Based on the British cult comic-strip, our tank-riding anti-heroine fights a mega-corporation, which controls the world's water supply"

So you have this ugly broad who's "crazy" and "unyielding" group with a pack of freaky animal-man hybrids to take an "evil corporation" so they don't "take over the world"

real CREATIVE, amish! I've yet to see that plot done before.

I have seen 3 of those 5 and I have his back. All of those were entertaining movies. I can see his point of view about why he prefers them because sometimes I feel that way. You don't always need these big cinematic epics that try to manipulate your emotions. Sometimes you just want to be entertained.

Some monkies play with their own feces too. I guess some are just more easily entertained than others...
