For nature and travel documentary love I cannot stress this enough

Wild China

Hands down 1 of the best docs ive ever seen. Right up there with life, Blue planet and Earth

Agreed, it is really good.

Just added "Up the Yangtze" to my recommendation list.
It's about how the Three Gorges dam affects a poor family living in a hut near the Yangtze river. It's a really good documentary (as are almost all the 4/5 star rated docs on Netflix).

Hah, this thread's existence cracks me up. I've watched (and more importantly discovered) a plethora of things on Netflix's instant play. At least half of that I didn't intend to watch and just found because I was looking for interesting, different, or unknown movies, shows, or documentaries.

Here's a list of a few things just within these last 6 months. A lot of them I had no idea about and just stumbled upon when browsing the library that I'm very glad just happened (bear in mind that I haven't watched any programmed television in the last ~6 years - I rely solely on what Netflix, Hulu, and other various online streaming sources have available):
  • Supernatural
  • XXXholic
  • Ethos
  • The Listening Project
  • Battlestar Galactica
  • Caprica
  • The Quantum Activist
  • Heroic Age
  • Witchblade
  • Kaze no Stigma
  • The Pyramid Code
  • Cosmos
  • Moribito
  • Mushi-Shi
  • The Ramen Girl
  • The Jade Warrior
  • The Beautiful Truth
  • The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo

The Grey was just added to Netflix Instant. One of the most moving films I've seen in years, but it seems to get very mixed reviews. It's a pretty bleak, existentialist story masquerading as an action film. If you're looking for a popcorn flick you might hate it, but if you're looking to have your expectations challenged, you might love it.

Funny you list this. I just finished it. Not on my list of must must watch films.

I couldn't get into the show after 20 minutes of the first episode, how long until you get hooked?

Give it the whole episode.

For me, it's not as good as Twin Peaks (and that comparison is necessary if you've seen Twin Peaks), but it still has a similar vibe but without the supernatural elements. The characters are good, even though the writing does have a lot of red herrings/plot twists, which I guess is inevitable for this kind of show, but some are less plausible.

If don't like the first episode after watching the whole way through you can give up.

Can you think of any other comparisons, other than Twin Peaks?

I still don't get how awesome netflix is for 7.99 a month. After watching a handful of shows I like, its as if it were free.

Maybe it has been mentioned already (haven't read the whole thread), but Better Off Ted is worth a look-see.

Nope :D

Supposedly Harper's Island is a similar atmospheric murder investigation kind of a show, but I have yet to see it. Few shows (that I know of) have a single investigation span the course of an entire series.

Twin Peaks is on Netflix Instant, by the way. Still one of the most unusual shows I have ever seen. It really draws you in, though.

Once Upon A Time. I'm watching it right now, and surprisingly, not bad.

It really is a good show, I expected something different but the way they have mixed the two worlds is really interesting. Can't wait for season 2 to start. Those who liked Robert Carlyle as Nicholas Rush in stargate universe will like his character even more in this show, he plays a sneaky evil guy called Rumpelstiltskin.

Other series I like:
Breaking Bad
Sons of Anarchy
Merlin
Reaper
Roswell
Eureka
Dinosaurs -not the mama !
Hell on Wheels
Everybody loves Raymond
Supernatural - season 7 gets added this week
Farscape - one of the best series of all time
Out of the Wild: The Alaska Experiment - watch as city dwellers are dropped in Alaska to fend for themselves with limited food and resources for two months.

Movies:
The Thing - original
Hogfather - funniest thing I saw in a long time,Death plays the part of Santa
The color of Magic - takes place in same world as hogfather
Ironclad
Hellboy
Demolition Man - Taco bell the only restaurant to survive the war ?
Daybreakers
True Grit
Winters Bone
Black Hawk Down - very intense action
Nothing But Trouble - Demi Moore, Chevy Chase, John Candy, Dan Akryoyd enough said
Beverly Hills cop 1,2,3
Jeepers Creepers
Without a Paddle
Rob Roy
Apocalypse Now Redux - lots of new scenes and remastered
Rat Race - Mr Bean
Groundhog Day

Last night "Margin Call" popped into my queue. Not too bad for a movie about Wall Street.

Bump to say thanks for the "Tucker & Dale vs Evil" recommendations in this thread. Watched it last night because of this thread and it was great!

They just pulled all their History and A&E TV shows. No more Pawn Stars, Storage Wars, etc. Those were fun time-wasters especially at 22 minutes per episode.

This is one part of NetFlix streaming I really found annoying. Sometimes shows will just disappear out of my Instant Queue. I was watching the Series "The Universe" and one day I go to watch another episode and it is gone. Will the content was pulled from Netflix.

A good movie.

"Shooter" fun to watch and based on the book "Point of Impact"

Just found a good series that I watched through. "Coal" which is about a mining coal. Kind of like the same thing as IRT but just in a coal mine. Wasn't bad. They only had one season on Neflix.
