Is anyone else bothered by them dividing mem into three desktop sections:Memory (Branded System Upgrade Memory), Memory (Gaming System Memory), Memory (Standard System Memory).

It seems the convinience of finding parts on the egg is slipping away

I am not a huge fan of the egg (since they don't ship fedex anymore as UPS sucks) but it's solely for marketing reasons that they do this and you will see over time the prices for "gaming" or "branded" memory on their site go up then come down half as much as they went up and so on and so forth, it's the egg though how much do you expect? try mwave GREAT service uses fedex and is quick to process and ship...

I'm kinda bothered by it, but I get along. I like to use more then just newegg though. Zipzoomfly, ewiz, Tigerdirect, directron, atacom, case-mod, server case for zippy/emacs PSUs, all of the above :D

better yet was what they had before the new design. you could select from drop-down menu's everything about the parts you wanted. now you need to cut them down one by one.

It does seem to be an artificial division, dependent on somebody at Newegg deciding which modules qualify as "gaming" memory and preventing users from easily comparing prices, which usually does mean at some point a retailer is trying to conceal pricing hijinks.

So yeah, it's annoying. How is DDR333 memory really any more "gaming"-centric than DDR266, no matter what the timings and heatsinking might be?

Actually you can still do that! When searching for parts, you will see it says Guided Search in the upper right corner. Click on Advanced Category Search and it will go back to using the drop-down menus! I think they the best way to search for what you want!

Yeah, the 'Gaming Memory' and other sections are a bit much, just one more step to get through if you know what you are doing already.

Newegg's search engine was best before they messed with it. The first version they had was superior to what they have now.

It defaults to the Guided Search if you delete the cookie for the site (and occasionally just seems to change for no reason, maybe when they make changes to the site so the cookie isn't any good anymore).

Yes, but you still don't have to deal with this "gaming system memory" nonsense. The old category is still there, just like it always was. I happened to have the link saved.

Huh? That only takes you to the "standard system memory" though (exact same link as Newegg has for "standard system memory").

Exactly. That might be the same title, "standard system memory" as it used to be, which differentiated it from say, laptop memory or Server memory, but now they've also segregated "gaming memory" so you won't find those modules under the standard system memory link.

That was what i was really looking at, it's like walmart having the same item in 2 places in the store for 2 diff prices, and they are far enough apart that it would be difficult to find the cheaper.

Thank you all for the great feedback. Your thoughts, such as this thread, are read by a lot of people here at Newegg.

We sincerely apologize if this new change has brought you any confusion or inconvenience. Our efforts are always an attempt to make your shopping experience simplified and more pleasant.

We segmented our memory section for various reasons. Basically, we were just trying to limit the amount of clicks customers must go through in order to reach specific types memory. In addition, we can assure you that all pricing is the same for either category (we would never do that to you).

We'll be keeping an eye out for more of your valued input.

Thanks again everyone!

Whenever I go there it's only to look at the cheapest stuff you have. I don't care what category it's in, and I have no idea where the best deal would be. I don't see why I should go looking through all of the categories just for that.

Having the memory split into categories that aren't based on actual specification differences results in MORE clicks for a customer. We now have to go look at prices for modules in the "standard" category, then go back and look at the "gaming" prices to see whether a better module might be just as cheap or cheaper, despite having been segmented as "gaming" memory. It's far easier for customers to be the ones to decide what they consider proper for their gaming machine or standard machine, and doesn't leave us wondering what sort of decision-making is going on by Newegg in sorting the modules into each category.

Damn, it's not just for the memory section. Instead of the page popping up text link categories for a search result, we have to go through drop-down menus. :|
