The War in Iraq could determine if the US draft is reinstated...

I would gladly fight for my countries freedom, as my grandfather did before me. I feel it is my duty, no matter what the reason, if the call is made for my generation to fight for freedom, I would expect the same committment from others. I will be 18 in April.

Don't worry, you will never have to fight for what you believe in, all you have to do is cheer while others die for you... isn't that just great... ?

I never said anything of the sort, if there was a draft then I would go. My point was that there is no chance it could happen because of politics and re-election. But yes, I would go fight.

Hey, don't get so upset, just stup thinking about how you could actually end up fighting for the ideas you will so eagerly scream for, you will never have to do so, you can go on living your protected life as bombers bomb and groundcrews invade, as others die for you, you can be cozy in your bed, unless... your from irak, then you may live, you may die, whatever... maybe they will mistake your house for the chinese embassy which on their map was something else.. who knows...

But no, you are an american, damn those towelheads, now they are disrupting your sleep...

I seriously doubt that the draft will be reinstated, but you do have to wonder. We have forces all over the world, and yet were going in war soon. I doubt that it will be much of a war, but you never know.

Saddam is protecting his homeland and has stated that he would rater dies than surrender. So he has nothing to lose. Whats not to say that he conducts chemical warfare and kills off 30,000 American troops. And that doesn't even account for the number of men that would be needed to win the war and we will need a large number of troops to secure Iraq after the war.

Then say North Korea does something unexpected and attacks Souht Korea. Then we need to have man power in that region as well.

Then you have Columbia and Afghanstan. We have troops over there as well.

Our troops are being thinned out. The draft is plausable. Unlikely... yes! but you never know.

🙂

"We" have troops, great, are you one of them? nah, didn't think so... playing keyboard combat is nice... isn't it...

so apparently you can say "we" when referring to sweden but he can't say "we" when referring to the U.S. ?

The draft will never happen because it is political suicide to whomever reinstates it.

But I do wonder even 1/10th of all the hardass toughtalking hawks aged 18-25 on this forum wouldn't crap their pants the moment "mandatory draft" was mentioned in Washington.

I wouldn't, and that is not because i am not american, but because i am going anyways...

and MOST of the people here talking tough would actuall crap their pants (excluding shiner, 308, Dave and some more), they are all for a war THEY do not have to fight... thumbs up, huh idiots?

Do you really mean that you're only going to protest if it comes down to your own life being on the line, but as long as you can sit home in relative safety while others risk their lives, you aren't going to protest?

no, i'm 30 and don't need to worry about being drafted. If there was a need for soldiers, I would enlist. A draft would be about the dumbest thing the president or the government could ever do. When American citizens are inspired to fight, history has shown they can not be defeated. When they are not inspired, they can help divide the country's will and give legitimacy to anti-war rhetoric (thinking through it now I probably wouldn't protest unless the demonstration was specifically targeted at the draft).

One of the worst things about Vietnam was that kids were forced by their country to go and die. If they refused, they were labeled unamerican traitors. That's not what the USA is about. We're not in Israel with enemies surrounding us and where military service is mandatory.

Saddam is like Hitler in many ways, but Iraq is not even close to the threat the Axis posed in terms of the amount of manpower needed to defeat it.

So why don't you enlist.. enjoy the pleasures of war... chicken-fvcking-shitters that is what you all are, screaming for war, but if you would stand even the slightest chance to get hurt, your tune would change...

Pity... all of these brave souls who has no soul... at all...

no, that's not the sifuation... troops are on iraq's border NOW, genius! I don't think enlisting will do a whole lot for the war effort now. By the time they trained me to do something worthwhile Saddam will be a bomb crater. Plus I don't think my wife or work would appreciate the move.

I'm all in favor of the men who make the choice to join the military, but it was never even a faint calling for me. If there was ever a need, however, I'd enlist just like my grandfathers did back in the 40's.

Stark, I see what you are saying. My only response is that the draft wouldn't be about trying to ferret out un-american traitors, it would be a last resort in trying to finish a war that dragged on for far longer than was expected. Supporting a war and protesting a draft should be mutually exclusive...seems if one doesn't want to commit fully to something as grave as a war, then they shouldn't be willing to commit at all.

why do people always bring up "the Draft" your Daft to think they will ever do that again. regardless of rumors.

Yes, of course you would enlist, so when did it strike you that this was for a good cause? this moment or earlier, and why didn't you enlist then?

It's easy sitting behind your keyboard and thinking... KILL... KILL.KILL... isn't it?

They might not think it's such a bad idea... most guys might think driving a hummer around in the desert and watching stuff blow up would be a cool way to spend a few months. Plus the army is co-ed now... they might actually have a chance with the ladies if they were stuck on a slow boat for a month! 😛
