I wasn't a fan of it. They really tried too hard to make the death of a "B List" character seem more important than what it was.

I am glad I watched it an hour later so I could skip the commercials. Wow they whored themselves out.

I figured this out a while back, they sandwich 5 minutes of content between 2 3 minute breaks at times. It's painful to watch live.

I could even finish the episode last night, watched the next black sails instead. I'll get to it tonight but it was just a glacial pace.

And way too many commercials. Ridiculous. Is it a 20 minute show now?
Actually, it was 42 minutes long... Pretty much the same as any other episode. The first half didn't have as many commercials, so it felt ridiculous in the second half of the episode.
At first I thought the radio transmissions were real, but then I wasn't sure. It mentioned villages at one point which made me think it was him remembering stuff from his past again. Maybe some news broadcast his farther made him listen to or watch. Maybe and event where rebels were killing villagers in Africa or something. He did say his farther made him watch stuff on the news. If it was real, how come Rick or no one ever mentioned it. I guess we will find out later.
No, they most definitely not real. They were in Tyrese's head. But it was a narration of what the group has done, but from a very different perspective. One of my favorite parts of the episode.
Did anyone like it?
I liked it a lot... And everyone I know IRL really liked it, as well. But that's not what populates this thread, or any other TWD thread, no matter the episode.

Didn't like it, too much focus on cinematography and visuals, just tell a fucking story without "dressing it up" so much. Remember when people in the group died and they didn't make a big deal out of it? Commercials didn't bother me because I DVR'd it before watching and shot through them, but wow the 2nd half was littered with ads, I would be so annoyed if I couldn't fast-forward.

well it wasnt what people expected and wanted so there is that. I wasn't happy about a few things but yes it was in fact a really well written show with excellent art direction and an interesting explorations of Tyrese coming to grips with his death. I am also sick of them losing tactical knowledge from previous episodes and people buying it because of stupidity. He didn't want to live any more. He let himself be killed essentially. Sad thing is there was so much he was capable of doing but his soft heart couldn't take it.

I really liked his character and was sad to see him leave. I actually thought his character arc could have more to give us. Whats wrong with him becoming the caretaker of the baby and carl and provisions?

His death was a money thing probably. They can only have so many seasonal players outside the core group.

Finally the pacing and action of the last few episodes wasnt sustainable and they had to explore something different.

Last night's EP was pretty good IMO. Unfortunately, I disliked how it ended. But, they have to keep with the idiotic trope.
New black guy shows up, old one has to die.
Despite that, though, I think the episode was done very well.

You keep saying that it was a money problem. That is ridiculous. This is the number one show on television right now, they make gobs of money.

I personally really liked this episode and am happy to see him go. Characters that do stupid shit annoy me. I really want to see the preacher get smeared, and soon.

I liked seeing the dead characters again, especially the Gov. I heard that the radio voice was actually Rick. Going to need to watch it again as I didn't really pay attention the the radio the first time.

I wasn't all that enthused with the episode. It's not like his death was a surprise (he's been trying to "kill himself" for a while now), and they really drug it out with tons of pretentious symbolism. Did it provide any benefit to the viewer? I don't think so. I thought Tyrese's viewpoint was made pretty obvious based upon his past words and actions.

Production and post have 1/3 less money per ep than first season.

Do you really think they have some kind of unlimited budget to just do whatever with every character? Being number 1 doesn't mean anything. GoT is consistently number 1 and they are still hurt for budget.

I would like to listen to that again then. I was only able to make out parts of it the first time.

I'm not saying they are buying chauffeurs for their chauffeurs but I highly doubt they are pinching pennies.

i didn't care about tyrese dying.

the only characters I care about right now are Rick, Carl, Darryl, Carol and Michonne.

Everyone else just acts dumb or seems worthless or is just not interesting.

In the minority here, but yes, I did. I just like the fact that we have a new season ahead, and I now have something to watch on Sunday nights. Otherwise, TV has become a vast hell hole of reality TV garbage that does nothing for me.

Yup, the British dude on the radio was Andrew Lincoln, aka Rick Grimes. He's British, Coral!

I missed a few from last season can someone explain the cut in half bodies and the car loaded with heads?

I was wondering the same thing... Probably a spoiler from the comic. Seems like it will be something they will run into in the next episodes?

Also...Michonne wanted to stay there until she saw the carnage. More importantly, she noticed the brick and steel fence that took some damage. From a herd? From heavy ammunition? Seemed kinda odd detail.

I thought that was one of the worst episodes yet 🙁 Lots of flash backs/forwards, characters in Tyrese's head, symbolism and other crap that really didn't add anything to the story. I very much liked the first half of the season, I hope this episode is not a harbinger of how future shows are, it was terrible.

I noticed the "W" (or "M"?) carved on the zombie heads, at some point we'll find out a little more. The fence was destroyed by humans, not zombies. I think that was the point they were trying to bring across.

Tyrese was a tough guy who could slay tons of zombies .... and he gets felled by a child zombie because he was stupid. I don't mind seeing him offed, but they seem to be running low on characters now, they need to bring in some new ones pronto and start developing them.

I think that was her realizing Rick was right about not being able to spot an assault until it was already on them. She realized the town fell to humans, not zombies.

I agree with most of that list, except for Carl. Sorry, but I still can't forgive him for being such a stupid kid in Season 2 🙂

Yes, he's going to have to be one heck of a cool character to make up for all the "where did Carl go?" in season 2. What an annoying character that was.

I don't understand how this show, which apparently has been breaking its own ratings records season after season and is one of the top cable shows, has budget issues -- figure of speech, I get it, just think it doesn't make sense.

There were stories year ago (?) about how it had less funding than Mad Men, which has barely a few million viewers?
