The USA is the Greatest Country in the World because ?

Slavery was a bad thing and it's a shame that we didn't get rid of it at the git go. And the work done by slaves played a major role in building our country.

Having said that, one of the worst things was it wasn't necessary. Our country could have been just as successful and undoubtedly even more successful, without slavery from the beginning.

So statements about our country being great because it was built on slavery are wrong, imho. We couldn't begin to be great until we fought a great war to end it.

I find it hilarious that so many Americans believe that only here are people allowed to speak against the government, express political views, or enjoy a high standard of living.

The United States was the model for democracy 200 years ago. We were the standard-bearer for freedom 200 years ago. Now we are one democracy among many, yet we fail to recognize the advances of other nations.

If you think everyone outside the US is poor, oppressed, and unsatisfied, you have swallowed just a *little* too much of the hype, my friend. The US is a wonderful place to live, but so are many other places in the world.

you want tropics, we got hawaii

want the frozen tundra we got alaska

want the desert we got Nevada

we have it all from coast to coast.

Being a citizen of the US inspired my business below in my sig. I doubt any other country can print what im selling.

I hate to put it bluntly, but I bet very few of you really have any idea what goes on in this country. The media is run by an allegopoly. The owners of the corporations who run the media are in an organization together; it is called the Trilateral Commission.

Try reading foreign newspapers for a better perspective. Try going to websites like www.disinfo.com or www.eff.org. You will read things about this country that will make you sick. The thought has actually crossed my mind that George Bush is the anti-christ.

First thing, what is this about these kids? You couldn't think of anything attention getting or relevant to say? Using a stupid argument like that doesn't help you out unless it's a comedy act.

That's something only an anus would say. There are several reasons why I cannot leave this country, though I would if I could. I simply don't have enough money to goto another country. I have high hopes for the administration following the Bush administration, because not all administrations have been this bad. I don't want to live in a country where I don't speak the lanuguage, which vastly limits the locations to which I can move. I want to get an IT job, and America is the place to be for such things.

There are also a lot of things I like about this country. However, that doesn't mean you shouldn't look at the bad things as well. Everyone has become a jingoist since 911. Why? We should be analyzing the problems with the country more. There is nothing that can justify an attack like that, but they didn't do it just because they are "crazy extemist Muslims." They did it because there are a vast number of political reasons behind it. If you stop and try to see it from their point of view, you will see that there are some compelling reasons for them to be angry with us.

I wouldn't waste my time refuting any of your assertions. If you don't like it here, go live somewhere else for a while. When you come back, then we get to hear your real sob story.

After 200 + years it has not achieved gender equality in the workplace.

After 200 + years it has not achieved racial equality, anywhere.

There is not national healthcare.

There are plenty of taxes. If you really calculate sales tax, state and local income tax, federal income tax, property tax. Over 50% of your paycheck goes to taxes.

Go to another country, get into trouble and as an American Citizen you will be abandoned, unless you can get you some press coverage. Other countries demand, and get back their citizens to discipline as they want.

Kids are being carried out of their homes and murdered.

Is having a big military really good? A military should be used to defend YOUR country, and occasionally assisting when others are being oppressed. Tax money has to pay for the BIG military, but the US borders have not really been in jeopardy since the English invaded for tax money.

Because I am seeing the glass as half empty, PLEASE, tell me what is so good about the old USA. In your response please only compare the US with other civilized countries, not third world countries. I need to tell some children why the US is a wonderful place and am obviously having a little trouble coming up with the reasons.🙁

TIA
🙂

Bovinicus - ypu let us know if we need to start a collection to help you leave. you can look at that atrocity anyway you like but to condone it as politically correct sickens me. I'm in on a donation to rid our country of people like you. Just done be a Baldwin and promise to leave and then stay! Besides the language should not be a problem. Just move over there and demand to be spoken to in English, just like the illegals do in this country.

You are just totally blind. You are unwilling to look at any one else's point of view. I specifically said that it was unjustified, and there is NOTHING that can justify it. However, there are still reasons behind it; we should still examine the "why." Just because the reasons don't justify the act does not mean the reasons are not valid reasons to dislike us.

You mindless little sheep make me laugh. Nothing SCREAMS ignorance like saying "if you don't like it here, you can just leave!" as if you had anything to do with creating the society you're so proud of. What's good about this nation was created years ago by men braver and wiser than any of the little patriotic lemmings who "stand up for freedom." When this nation first being established, the patriots were the ones demanding loyalty to the British king, and the people being told to "love it or leave it" were busy writing declarations of independence and redressing grievances against the ruling government.

And by the way - "illegals" don't demand that we speak their language, as a general rule. You intolerant ass.

Mindless liitle sheep? who made you king of the I.Q.? Yea right. You want him here fine.He said he needed money to go, and I'm glad to see/help him go. What's wrong with that? And you are right about the forefathers, you suppose they would open there arms to him, or to the illlegals we have to mollycoddle?

Besides I'd expect that attitude from someone from Ole Miss! LOL

I read your post 3 times, and though I get the general tone and emotion, I can't make heads or tails of your point.

As for Ole Miss, it's a beautiful place, with some magnificent people, but with more than its fair share of the patriotic lemmings I was talking about. At least they avoid the hypocrisy, though, as the rest of the racists in the country scapegoat Mississippi so they don't have to deal with their own prejudices.

Or then again, should I say "you" and not "they"?

Don't try to pass off your suggestion of paying for me to leave as a real suggestion. You were saying it to be a belligerent smartass. You're really going to give a stranger a few thousand dollars just because he is unpatriotic and you want him to leave your country? I highly doubt that.

Bovinicus - No, but i will be one of 200 people to give you $20.00 to leave. Just don't take the money and pull a "Baldwin".

Rio Rebel - Point is don't call me mindless. I made an honest suggestion. You may not like but that doesn't make me mindless.

Please stop trying to pretend that was a real suggestion. You know it was a smartass comment, and you cannot convince me otherwise.

Anyway, I also said that there are reasons that I like this country; you seemed to have ignored those statement totally. Why? Because you saw my other "anti-american" comments and just jumped to the conclusion that you want me out of "your" country. Lighten up, and learn to accept some criticism now and again. No government is perfect. I have a right to complain about certain things, that's one of the great things about this country.
