ok, i bought the perfect pillow from LNT the other day and so far im pretty happy w/ it. used a 20% off coupon from BBB and got it for around $42. as soon as i entered the 'pillow' section, i noticed they had 3 displays set up, each w/ a different memory foam pillow. they all had labels on them, the first 2 seemed to be generic brands and the 3rd said perfect pillow. so i gave them all a sqeeze and noticed that the perfect pillow felt an awful lot like egg carton foam... i started to look for a sales person and i tripped over a big pile of the yellow and red boxes containing the perfect pillow. i proceeded to pick one out of the middle of the stack and then informed the sales girl that the pillow they had on display was not the correct one, but she didn't seem to care. oh well, as long as i got mine :)

now that i have the pillow, i think its time to start looking at mattress pads.

my options are:

pad from campingworld.com and fold it in half (since it is for queen sized bed and i sleep alone ;p)
pad off ebay
custom pad from one of those memoryfoam.com type places that will custom cut the foam

any other options out there that are under $200?

have any of you tried the camplingworld pads? they seem like a good deal, and if i get 2 of them and fold them both in half, i can get 6" of foam under me.

atrac, i think you need to start reviewing mattress pads now ;)

Folding the pad, or placing one on top of the other, will not do much good. The key is the density of the foam.

Go to ebay and look at one of the sales. There is one (half-price bedding, or some such name) that has a good explanation.

I bought the Camping World pillows for $13.95. Not bad and I use them for seat cushions. I went full freight ($53)for a Tempur Pedic 4" contour pillow. It is very good.

I am now looking for a mattress pad. For a queen size on ebay I found

1. 3" thick 4 lb density for $130 plus shipping ($25).

2. 2" thick 4lb density for $99 plus shipping. This guy advertises that the foam is ISOTONIC brand. I seem to remember, a 100 or so posts back, that Atatract said this was almost as good as Tempur Pedic foam for a pillow.

Also, this guy makes the statement that a 2" is the preferred thickness and not a 3".

Comments would be appreciated.

Well I got a question for you guys about the pillows from Mark's 1/2 price bedding on ebay. On one of his packages I see his pillows, are they good quality? What kind are they?

dundevil,

I would go with the 3" pad. That's what I got from Mark's 1/2 price bedding. It's very nice and I think it's just the right thickness. I'm pretty sure you'll be pleased with it.

LuNoTiCK,
I can't really comment on Mark's pillows (the pink ones). I did try one out in his store (his showroom is local to my area) and it seemed decent quality, but without really getting a couple nights I can't really recommend it, but it's a good freebie.

Mark is going to research trying to get the "perfect pillow". So hopefully we may be able to get these at a better price soon.

Heh, What do you consider soon? He said an extra $10 dollars for one of the pillows, and that seems very cheap.

Thats with a package.

no telling. I think those pillows he has are worth $10 for sure. He told me he would see if he can order the perfect pillow Monday, but even if he can I don't know how long or how much he will charge.

The unexpected benefit of the Novafoam is I used to drool in my sleep once in a while and sleeping on the Novafoam has completely eliminated it.... I don't know if it's the support that the foam provides or just the contour shape of the pillow.

No, it's just that the foam sucks up your drool, snot and ear wax. Really terrific.

how much is the novafoam going for? any specs?

Read the whole thread =). Novafoam is Costco around 25 bucks my reviews are on page one. I'm still using it and I love it, in fact I think I get attached to it more every day. A very interesting pillow at the start turns into your favorite thing. My next buy I'm gonna hit the novafoam mattress pad at costco it's 150 bucks or so but man it's gotta be a dream come true I'll never get out of bed! (only time I ever said that before was if I got magically zapped and changed into a woman =)). Personally I think the Nova from Costco is the best buy you can get in the foam pillow department, it's pretty high quality.

LuNoTiCK,

Mark said the Pink pillow is made by Carpenter... this is the same company that makes Isotonic stuff, but he also said he's phasing out this pillow because he's gotten too many returns on it. Perhaps people aren't happy with paying $30 for it, but it might be worth $10.

For the guy looking for a Queen size Mattress pad for under $200, besides the options you mentioned, there is also QVC. It's made of Isotonic foam and is made by The Carpenter Company. It also comes with a 1/4 inch thick Quilted cover, plus a heavy duty duffle bag that you can use to store a down comforter in the summer. I got one a few weeks ago and just love it, it is so comfortable and it (and "The perfect pillow from LNT) makes me go to bed earlier every night.

I'm not sure but that $99 ebay 2" pad might be the exact same thing. Ask the seller if the cover is quilted, if so, then that's a great deal.

do you guys think its imperative to get a visco topper too? im definitely getting a visco pillow but im trying out the toppers at LNT and they arent bad. at this point my mattress is so bent and stiff any improvement is good. i got the simmons smart foam pad (69.99 ugh) and smart foam slow recovery pillow. BOTH ARE NOT SMART FOAM! feels like soft egg crate to me. also am trying the homedics smart-foam pillow. very much like the foam sample. all are going back of course. someoen even bought the last perfect pillow right before i got there.

anyways, so should i save up? i know 100-200 is worth a good nights sleep but ill have to wait a week or so, vs. the 19.99-39.99 egg crate toppers. i was thinking, maybe i can use both- get the big cheap topper and use it beneath the isotonic topper to emulate the posturpedic?

I bought the novaform from costco a couple of weeks ago, and it works great! I thought it was a little stiff at first, but I think I had it turned around the wrong way. Does anyone know if the big (thicker) side is supposed to be towards your neck, or if the thinner side is supposed to be towards your neck?

suppacal--I believe the bigger hump is supposed to be at your neck. Least for me, this works. Prolly whatever feels best for you.

LOL......I got the 3", 4# mattress pad 10 days ago. I was out of state, visiting my parents, told my Mom to try it. She slept on it every night....now, it's hers. I didn't even get to try it. :(

I received my Dr. Ho Hofun pillow from HSN today. I offered to let Atrac see it so he can give it a review. It cost 17.35 Shipped.

I think it is the thinner side taht your neck rests on. also the zipper is on the thicker side so I think it would only be logical to be the thinner side. I may be wrong though.

Well after sleeping on the Dr. Ho's Pillow for 1 night I found it quite comfortable. I think I will still need to give it a few more days to get used to it.

For those of you still looking for a pillow and for cheap.
I just bought one at Linen and things for 29.99 (was on sale).
Its a "Smart-Foam Pillow" by Homedics Body Basics. It has all
the good stuff every foam pillo has, ergonomic support, thermo-sensitive,
incredible memory, theraputic support, and its standard size.
Model SF-P1, dimensions 18"x12"x4". Also has a real nice soft outer cover
that comes off and is washable. Looks identical to that Dr. one on hsn.
Ive been sleeping on it for 3 days now, no complaints. It didnt stink
when I opened it either, all tho the manual said it might.

It's hard to compare it to anything else since I do not own any other foam products. Hopefully someone else can compare it to another product they own. Anyone in the San Gabriel Valley (Cali)?

i dont like it. it was interesting the first few days, but now i think its gotten really soft. ive been switching between it, the simmons eggcrate foam one, and my regular pillow and i cant see that much of a difference. im still tossing and turning and switching during the night, although i think it may be because of the summer heat.

the cover- ROUGH! the white terry cloth that the simmons has is wayyy softer. its like comparing khakis to cotton pants, or jeans to khakis.

Just for reference - there is a WORLD of difference between the Tempur-Pedic brand and the other brands. My wife has the $75 Tempur Pedic and I have a knock-off...I am constantly trying to steal hers. Do yourself a favor and at least test the Tempur-Pedic at brookstones.

you know, ive noticed i have slept a little better just on the simmons egg crate topper from LNT (69.99 one). with my flannel sheets (is flannel ghetto? do i need silk/satin? im a young bachelor hehe) its just so soft, its a joy laying on it. therefore, i will definitely upgrade to a visco topper =D
